Soo (puppet)
Soo is a British glove puppet and TV character from the show Sooty and first appeared in 1964 as the girlfriend of Sooty.'Sooty is not just black and white' Liverpool ''Echo'' 22 November 1966 p. 2 They still remain boyfriend and girlfriend today. In many episodes they kiss. Soo is a calm and collected female panda who acts as the foil for both Sooty and Sweep. Sometimes, Soo tells people off and is very intelligent, and usually wears a red skirt. In the spin-off series Sooty's Amazing Adventures, Soo wore a blue dress with a yellow flower on it and a white nappy instead. Voice The original voice artist and puppeteer for Soo was Harry Corbett's wife, Marjorie Corbett, who voiced Soo until 1980. Brenda Longman took over in 1981. Marjorie Corbett
Marjorie Corbett (nee Hodgson) 12 May 1912 – 27 July 1995) was a British stage, voice actress, puppeteer, and film actress, she was the wife of Sooty's creator, Harry Corbett.Wearing p.9 Earliest Appearances on Film Corbett appeared on stage in several of the Aldwych farces. In the 1930s, she appeared in nine films, including two adaptations of the Aldwych plays. She appeared as a leading lady in quota quickies such as ''The Reverse Be My Lot'' and Michael Powell's ''The Price of a Song''. ''Sooty Heights'' is a British children's television series, created and presented by Richard Cadell, co-stars Liana Bridges and Brenda Longman, produced by Granada Television, and aired on ITV Network from 27 September 1999 to 11 December 2000. It is the successor to the children's series ''Sooty & Co'' and the first programme to feature Cadell as Sooty's right-hand man (and subsequent owner), following the retirement of Matthew Corbett in 1998. The show focuses on Sooty, Sweep, Soo, Scampi, Richard, and Liana running their new home and business place, the Sooty Heights hotel.
