Sony α6500
The Sony α6500 (model ILCE-6500) is a compact digital camera announced on 6 October 2016 shortly after photokina 2016. The α6500 features a 24 megapixel Exmor sensor with 425 phase detection autofocus points. The camera is powered by Sony's Bionz X image processor with an ISO range up to 51,200. Additionally, the α6500 can shoot images at up to 11 frames per second with continuous autofocus and exposure tracking. The mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) is also the first Sony model to integrate a 5-axis image stabilizator in a body with an APSC sensor. Sony claims an autofocus performance as short as 0.05 seconds. Lens compatibility Sony E-mount lenses, both full-frame (FE) and APS-C (E) are compatible with the α6500. Build quality The lens showcases a minimalist black metal exterior with a Zeiss badge on the side of the barrel and no zoom lock to prevent zoom creep. Both the zoom and focus rings are metal. The barrel of the lens telescopes outward from the main lens body as it's zoomed in from 16mm to 70mm. Image quality The lens has a tendency to be soft in the corners and toward the 70mm end of the lens' zoom range. The Sony α6400 (model ILCE-6400) is a digital camera announced January 15, 2019. It is an APS-C mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) designed to be a mid-range mirrorless camera and act as an update of the α6300. Sony is targeting the vlogging community with the α6400's flip-up screen and aggressive pricing. It features the same 24 megapixel sensor seen in the α6500. At the time of release, the two most capable cameras in the α6000 series of cameras were the α6400 and the α6500. BIONZ is a line of image processors used in Sony digital cameras. It is currently used in many Sony α DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Image processing in the camera converts the raw data from a CCD or CMOS image sensor into the format that is stored on the memory card. This processing is one of the bottlenecks in digital camera speed, so manufacturers put much effort into making, and marketing, the fastest processors for this step that they can. Sony designs the circuitry of the processor in-house, and outsources the manufacturing to semiconductor foundries such as MegaChips and (mostly) GlobalFoundries, as they currently do not own any fabrication plant capable of producing a system on a chip (SoC).
