Tom Cochrane
Thomas William Cochrane ( ; born May 14, 1953) is a Canadian musician best known as the frontman for the rock band Red Rider and for his work as a solo singer-songwriter. Cochrane has won eight Juno Awards. He is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, an officer of the Order of Canada, and has an honorary doctorate from Brandon University. In September 2009, he was inducted onto the Canadian Walk of Fame. Life and career Red Rider After meeting at the El Mocambo tavern in Toronto, Cochrane joined the Canadian rock band Red Rider in 1978 and served as their lead singer and main songwriter for more than ten years. Red Rider included Ken Greer, Jeff Jones, Peter Boynton and Rob Baker. Bruce Allen managed the band from their debut until 1985. "Lunatic Fringe" is a song by the Canada, Canadian rock music, rock band Red Rider from their 1981 in music, 1981 album, ''As Far as Siam''. The song reached on the rock radio airplay chart in ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' in September 1981, and was awarded a SOCAN Classic award in 2009 by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada for reaching the 100,000-airplay mark on (Canadian) domestic radio. Background Guitarist Tom Cochrane wrote the song after becoming concerned about a resurgence of anti-Semitism in the 1970s, and was also inspired after reading a book about Raoul Wallenberg, who rescued Jews from The Holocaust during World War II. Andrew Neil MacNaughtan (25 February 196425 January 2012) was a Canadian photographer and music video director. Work MacNaughtan won four Juno Awards for his work as a photographer, director and album art designer, including three wins for CD/DVD Artwork Design of the Year in 1995 for Our Lady Peace's album '' Naveed'', in 1998 for Tom Cochrane's '' Songs of a Circling Spirit'' and in 2004 for Jann Arden's '' Love Is the Only Soldier'', and one win for Music DVD of the Year for Rush's ''Rush in Rio'' in 2004. Artists for whom MacNaughtan directed music videos included Rush, Great Big Sea, The Gandharvas, Aaron Carter, Michael Bublé and SHeDAISY. He also launched ArtGivesHope, a charity to help families in Africa affected by HIV/AIDS, in the early 2010s. John Webster (musician)
John Webster (born December 18, 1957) is a musician, engineer and producer who primarily plays keyboards. He began his musical career as a child, trained in classical piano until his early teens, and then moved on to playing in rock bands. One of his first bands, Stonebolt, landed a top 30 U.S. hit with its first release in 1978 and went on to record four successful albums. Webster joined the band Red Rider in 1984, performing on that year's ''Breaking Curfew'' album and remaining with the group until they disbanded in 1990. Webster then continued to work closely in productions with its leader, Tom Cochrane, including his highly successful ''Mad Mad World'' album. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Webster worked on many major recordings done in Vancouver's Little Mountain Sound Studios with producers Bruce Fairbairn and Bob Rock. "I Wish You Well" is the first single released from Canadian singer Tom Cochrane's third solo studio album, ''Ragged Ass Road'' (1995). Inspired by Cochrane's experiences during the years following the success of his album ''Mad Mad World'', the song was released in 1995 as his first single since "Bigger Man" in 1992. Ken Greer
Kenneth William Greer (born 25 July 1954) is a Canadian guitarist and keyboardist. He is one of the founding members of the Canadian rock band Red Rider. Biography Greer is the youngest of seven children born into a musical family in Toronto, Ontario. He grew up in the North Toronto area. He played the pedal steel guitar. After a Red Rider hiatus during most of the 1990s, Greer was involved in numerous musical projects including Big Faith, Hunter-Greer and Gowan. Currently he stills tours as Tom Cochrane and Red Rider, playing guitar, pedal steel and keyboards.
