Song Young-gil
Song Young Gil (; born 21 March 1963) is a South Korean politician who served as the Leader of the centre-liberal Democratic Party from 2 May 2021 until 10 March 2022. He was Member of the National Assembly, as well as the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the 21st National Assembly. He also held various positions such as the Chair of the Democratic Party's Special Committee on Peace and Cooperation in Northeast Asia and as the Chair othe Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation He previously served as Mayor of Incheon from 2010 to 2014. Prior to serving as mayor, he was a democratic movement student activist and a member of the Korean National Assembly for three terms. He is a practicing Catholic. Oh Se-hoon (Korean: 오세훈, Hanja: 吳世勳; born January 4, 1961) is a South Korean politician who is currently the serving Mayor of Seoul since 8 April 2021. He also previously served as a member of the National Assembly of South Korea from 2000 to 2004, and the mayor of Seoul from 2006 to 2011. Oh is a lawyer by profession. 2022 South Korean Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in South Korea on 9 March 2022. Under the South Korean constitution, presidents are restricted to a single five-year term, meaning that incumbent president Moon Jae-in was ineligible to run for a second term. Opposition candidate Yoon Suk-yeol of the People Power Party won the election, defeating candidate Lee Jae-myung of the incumbent Democratic Party. Both main parties had unusually intense primary elections. Hong Young-pyo (; born 30 April 1957) is a South Korean politician representing Incheon Bupyeong District at the National Assembly from 2009. Before entering politics He led the first labour strike of South Korean Chaebol in 1985. In 1982 he started working at Daewoo Motors (now General Motors)'s factory in Bupyeong as its welder as part of his endeavor as a student activist to initiate grassroots movement for democracy among labourers. In April 1985, its trade union decided to go on strike after being offered only 5.7% increase in wages - considerably small increase compared to their demand, 18.7%, to compensate increased productivity and to meet the minimum cost of living. 2017 South Korean Presidential Election
Early presidential elections were held in South Korea on 9 May 2017 following the impeachment and removal of Park Geun-hye. The elections were conducted in a single round, on a first-past-the-post basis, and had originally been scheduled for 20 December 2017. However, they were brought forward after the decision of the Constitutional Court on 10 March 2017 to uphold the National Assembly's impeachment of Park. Following procedures set out in the Constitution of South Korea, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn succeeded Park as the acting president. Moon Jae-in (; ; born 24 January 1953) is a South Korean former politician, civil servant and lawyer who served as the 12th president of South Korea between 2017 and 2022. Prior to his presidency, he served as Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs and Chief of Staff to President Roh Moo-hyun, Member of the National Assembly, and Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Roh Moo-hyun (; ; 1 September 1946 – 23 May 2009) was a South Korean politician and lawyer who served as the ninth president of South Korea between 2003 and 2008. Roh's pre-presidential political career was focused on human rights advocacy for student activists in South Korea. The electoral threshold, or election threshold, is the minimum share of the primary vote that a candidate or political party requires to achieve before they become entitled to representation or additional seats in a legislature.
