Somizi Buyani Mhlongo (born 23 December 1972) is a South African media personality, television presenter, actor and choreographer. In 1992, he appeared on the musical and political film, '' Sarafina!'' which gained him prominence. Mhlongo became lead choreographer for numerous shows and events, including the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. After starring and taking part in the choreography of ''Sarafina!'', Mhlongo also appeared in several films including drama film '' Cry, the Beloved Country'' (1995) as well as various television shows, including Idols South Africa and V Entertainment. Idols South Africa
''Idols'' is a television show on the South African television network Mzansi Magic, and previously on M-Net, based on the popular British show '' Pop Idol''. The show is a contest to determine the best young singer in South Africa. The general format of the show is that thousands of hopeful performers from across South Africa audition in front of the judges. They are narrowed down to approximately 100 to enter the theatre rounds. They perform in group and solo rounds until 16 finalists are chosen by the judges (usually 8 males and 8 females). From these, the top 10 are selected, then each week viewers have several hours following the broadcast of the previous episode to vote by phone, SMS or online for their favourite contestant. The contestant(s) with the fewest votes is sent home each week. It was presented by Candy Litchfield and Matthew Stewardson in the first season. Ndaba Mhlongo
Ndaba Walter Mhlongo (3 July 1933 – 29 October 1989) was a South African actor and choreographer best known for his role of ''Mshefane'' in the 1977 production ''Inyakanyaka''. Ndaba is widely regarded as one of South Africa's most prominent comedians. Joe Mafela, himself an established comedian, described Ndaba's comedy as effortless. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC. V Entertainment is an entertainment news series similar to E! News on American Broadcasting Channel E! Entertainment. Programme content Developed by M-Net, broadcasting simultaneously on Vuzu and Vuzu Amp (a more premium version of Vuzu) is South Africa's solution to E! News. V Entertainment covers local and international celebrities. The format for V Entertainment is largely based on the format used on E! News although its broadcasts are 30 minutes shorter in a smaller production studio. It broadcasts Mondays to Fridays at 18:00 (CAT) on both Vuzu & Vuzu Amp with a repeat at 23:00 (CAT) on Vuzu and 22:30 (CAT) on Vuzu Amp. Mary Twala
Mary Kuksie Twala (14 September 1939 – 4 July 2020) was a South African actress. In 2011, she was nominated for Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Career Twala featured in several South African local productions. She had a guest role in the first season of '' Generations''. In 2007, she starred in local drama, ''Ubizo: The Calling''. In 2010, she played a supporting role in ''Hopeville'', the film won numerous awards in several festivals and award ceremonies. Mzansi Magic is a South African digital satellite and general entertainment channel created by Multichoice and run by M-Net's local interest division, and is broadcast on DStv. History The channel launched in mid-July 2010 on channel 107 as M-Net's platform to boost local production and showcase entertainment in South Africa. Through the channels development, M-Net would engage with local producers, partnering with South African filmmakers to create gripping content with universal appeal while empowering new and upcoming talent and ensuring that key skills are transferred to the industry.
