James Somerville (June 7, 1834 – May 24, 1916) was an Ontario journalist, newspaper editor and political figure. He was a Liberal member of the House of Commons of Canada who represented Brant North from 1882 to 1896 and Wentworth North and Brant from 1896 to 1900. He was born in Dundas, Upper Canada in 1834 and educated there and in Simcoe. In 1854, he became editor and owner of the Ayr Ayr (; sco, Ayr; gd, Inbhir Àir, "Mouth of the River Ayr") is a town situated on the southwest coast of Scotland. James Somerville (Bruce County Politician)
James Somerville (January 31, 1826 – September 19, 1898) was an Ontario businessman, notary public and political figure. He represented Bruce West in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1882 to 1887. He was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in 1826 and came to Dundas, Upper Canada with his family in 1841. In 1849, he married Mary Bennett. He was named a magistrate in 1854. He founded the village of Lucknow, where he bought a sawmill and erected a gristmill and wool carding mill. He also helped organize a petition to have Lucknow incorporated as a police village in 1863 and donated the land for the town hall. Vice-Admiral Henry Boyle Townshend Somerville (7 September 1863 – 24 March 1936) was an Irish naval officer and author who served in the Royal Navy.
