Somalia National Bandy Team
Somalia national bandy team represents Somalia in the Bandy World Championship. It is controlled by the Somali National Bandy Association, which is a member of the Federation of International Bandy. The squad participated in the 2014 Bandy World Championship in Irkutsk, Russia, the first team from Africa to take part in bandy competitions. They participated in all following tournaments as well, consistently taking the last position. Background All selected players, except an ice hockey player living in Canada, are Somali nationals who live in the Sweden, Swedish town of Borlänge and play for the local club Borlänge Bandy (Borlänge-Stora Tuna BK, later renamed Peace & Love City). Somali National Bandy Association is the governing body for the sports of bandy and rink bandy for Somalia. The organization was founded in 2013 and is formally a part of the Somali Olympic Committee. The same year, the Somalia national bandy team became the first squad from Africa to join the Federation of International Bandy. The team consists of Somalian nationals, mostly living in Sweden. Borlänge/Stora Tuna BK is a bandy club in Borlänge in Sweden. It was founded as ''Borlänge-Stora Tuna BK'' in 1981, when two clubs combined. The club was usually called Borlänge Bandy, until 2016, when it changed to the name ''Peace & Love City'' because of a cooperation with the Peace & Love cultural festival. The full legal name is still ''Ideella föreningen Borlänge-Stora Tuna Bandyklubb med firma Borlänge-Stora Tuna BK''. Since 2019, the club is again called Borlänge/Stora Tuna BK. The club has been playing in the second level league of Swedish bandy, Allsvenskan, in the 2010/11 season and again since the 2012/13 season.
