Soma Norodom
Soma Serei Norodom ( km, សោម៉ា សិរី នរោត្តម; born October 29, 1969) is a newspaper columnist, philanthropist and princess of the Cambodian royal House of Norodom. Raised in the United States, she returned to Cambodia in 2010 and began writing columns for the ''Phnom Penh Post''. Referring to herself as "the Royal Rebel", many of her columns have been critical of the Cambodian government or members of the royal family, causing the Cambodian government to express their annoyance at her work. Princess Soma has been active in charity work for various NGOs and founded her own not-for-profit organization, the Soma Norodom Foundation. Her official title is ''Neak Ang Machas Ksatrei'' ( km, អ្នកអង្គម្ចាស់ក្សត្រី), with the English language style of "Highness", elevated on May 21, 2011 from "her excellency, ''Brhat Varman''". Sihanoukville (; km, ក្រុងព្រះសីហនុ, ), also known as Kampong Som ( km, កំពង់សោម, ), is a coastal city in Cambodia and the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province, at the tip of an elevated peninsula in the country's south-west on the Gulf of Thailand. The city is flanked by an almost uninterrupted string of beaches along its entire coastline and coastal marshlands bordering the Ream National Park in the east. Norodom Of Cambodia
Norodom ( km, នរោត្តម, ; born Ang Voddey ( km, អង្គវតី, ); 3 February 1834 – 24 April 1904) was King of Cambodia from 19 October 1860 to his death on 24 April 1904. He was the eldest son of King Ang Duong and was a half-brother of Prince Si Votha and King Sisowath. He was elected to the throne in 1860 but would not be crowned until 1864 due to the fact that Siam held the royal regalia (the royal crown and other artefacts). In 1863, he signed a treaty with France by which he gave France control over Cambodia's foreign relations in exchange for personal protection against his enemies. The treaty saved Cambodian independence, but French control over Cambodia's internal affairs strengthened continually until the end of his reign (full independence was not restored until 1953). Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
