Soloman Teff
Solomon Teff was a solicitor and the president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews from 1964 to 1967. He was a member of the Hove Hebrew Congregation in Brighton and Hove. Teff became acting president of the Board of Deputies upon the death of Abraham Moss and was succeeded by Michael Fidler. Board Of Deputies Of British Jews
The Board of Deputies of British Jews, commonly referred to as the Board of Deputies, is the largest and second oldest Jewish communal organisation in the United Kingdom, after only the Initiation Society which was founded in 1745. Established in 1760 by a group of Sephardic Jews, the board presents itself as a forum for the views of most organisations within the British Jewish community, liaising with the British government on that basis. Notably, while Lord Rothschild was President of the Board of Deputies, the Balfour Declaration was addressed to him and eventually led to the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine. The ''American Jewish Year Book'' (AJYB) has been published since 1899. Publication was initiated by the Jewish Publication Society (JPS). Aliyah (, ; he, עֲלִיָּה ''ʿălīyyā'', ) is the immigration of Jews from Jewish diaspora, the diaspora to, historically, the geographical Land of Israel, which is in the modern era chiefly represented by the Israel, State of Israel. World Zionist Congress
The Zionist Congress was established in 1897 by Theodor Herzl as the supreme organ of the Zionist Organization (ZO) and its legislative authority. In 1960 the names were changed to World Zionist Congress ( he, הקונגרס הציוני העולמי ''HaKongres HaTsioni HaOlami'') and World Zionist Organization (WZO), respectively. The World Zionist Organization elects the officers and decides on the policies of the WZO and the Jewish Agency, including "determining the allocation of funds." The first Zionist Congress was held in Basel, Switzerland in 1897. Abraham Moss
Abraham Moss (1898 or 1899- 20 June 1964) was the Lord Mayor of Manchester from 1953 to 1954. He was born in Manchester to Romanian Jewish parents, his father was Hasid and a Talmudic scholar. He was educated at Salford Grammar School. Her married Doris Lewis in 1935. He was first elected to Manchester City Council in 1929. He worked in the textile trade but he focussed heavily on education and an elected counsellor. He was made a Justice of the peace in 1943 and an Alderman in 1946. In 1949 he liaised with Jewish organisation in the United States. He was made Master of Arts Honoris causa by University of Manchester in 1952. He died of a heart attack just days after being elected President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, having been vice president for the proceeding 8 years.
