Solemn Novena
Solemn Novena was a gothic rock band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. History Solemn Novena formed in early 2006 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The band's line-up consisted of members Louise Crane on vocals, Marc McCourt on guitar/ vocals, and Stuart Harland on guitar. The band's main aim was to bring the musical genre of gothic rock into the 21st century using haunting keyboards and vocals, 12-string guitars with much reverb and loud, pounding bass guitar. Their sound is quite similar to that of other gothic rock bands such as Rosetta Stone and The Mission. The band's five-track EP ''As Darkness Falls'' was released on 20 December 2006 at a release party @ Necrodanse (Lavery's, Belfast) Solemn Novena featured as 'Best Unsigned Band' in Gothic Magazine (March 2007) and appeared on journalist Mick Mercer's list of 'Top 30 Goth Singles'. Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. The Eden House
The Eden House is a collaborative musical project, initiated by Stephen Carey (formerly of This Burning Effigy and Adoration) and involving a collection of guest musicians and vocalists; later joined by Tony Pettitt (formerly of Fields of the Nephilim, Rubicon and NFD). Their debut album ''Smoke & Mirrors'' was released in April 2009 in the United States and Europe, and May in the United Kingdom. Vocals were provided by Monica Richards, Evi Vine, Amandine Ferrari and Julianne Regan. Grooving In Green
Grooving In Green is a British gothic rock band formed in 2008 by guitarists Pete Finnemore and Simon Manning in Hastings, England, joined by vocalist and lyricist General Megatron Bison later in the year. In 2009, Grooving In Green released two Extended play, EPs, ''Ascent EP'' and ''Dirt'', on the independent record label Inquisition Records, catching the attention of producer Stephen Carey (The Eden House), which led to Grooving In Green releasing its debut album ''Post Traumatic Stress'' in 2010 and the follow-up album ''Stranglehold'' in 2012. Louise Patricia Crane
Louise Patricia Crane (born 8 December 1984) is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and visual artist. She is known for her unique blend of romantic escapism and dreamlike progressive rock, leading to music journalist Dom Lawson dubbing her "The new queen of psychedelic prog". Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Crane began her career in music fronting gothic rock band Solemn Novena in 2006, with whom she gained a small following and performed on both of their releases. In 2016 she joined The Eden House and debuted on their 2017 album ''Songs for the Broken Ones''. Rosetta Stone (band)
Rosetta Stone are an English gothic rock band formed in the 1980s by Porl King (guitar/vocals/keyboards) and Karl North (bass), plus their drum machine and synthesizer rack nicknamed "Madame Razor". The band is named after the Rosetta Stone, an Egyptian historical artifact, and the band used much ancient mythological imagery, especially in their earlier work. Their early style and first album reflected the jangly-guitar sounds of 1980s gothic rock, and their first big break came after live gigs supporting the then already well-established band Mission UK, The Mission. The Mission (British Band)
The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the United States) are an English gothic rock band formed in 1986. Initially known as The Sisterhood, the band was started by frontman Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams (both from The Sisters of Mercy), soon adding drummer Mick Brown ( Red Lorry Yellow Lorry) and guitarist Simon Hinkler (Artery and Pulp). Mick Mercer (born Bichael Bercer, 2 June 1957) is a journalist and author best known for his books, photos and reviews of the goth, punk and indie music scenes. Life and work Mercer is primarily a writer focused on the gothic scene and its music. He has also photographed bands from the punk era onwards. He published a monthly online magazine, ''The Mick'', for over ten years and now hosts a weekly live internet radio show, ''Mick Mercer Radio''. Mercer ran one of the first punk fanzines, ''Panache'', from 1976 to 1992. In 1978, he began writing for British music paper ''Record Mirror'', then freelanced for ''ZigZag'' magazine, later becoming its editor until the magazine folded in 1986.
