Solar Films Inc Oy is a Finnish film production company, which was founded in 1995. Solar Films is one of the country's leading production companies in feature films and TV productions. Solar Films' productions have won a total of 41 Jussi Awards, and three Oscar nominations. Besides feature films and television drama, Solar Films have also produced thousands of hours of TV entertainment for Finnish TV channels. Solar Films is owned by Egmont and Markus Selin. The company's CEO is Jukka Helle. In 2009, Solar Films bought the majority of production company Bronson Club. Jussi Awards
The Jussi Awards are Finland's premier film industry prizes, awarded annually to recognize the achievements of directors, actors, and writers. History The first Jussi Awards ceremony was held on 16 November 1944 at the Restaurant Adlon in Helsinki. The award is one of the oldest films awards in Europe. The original planned name for the prize was ''Aino'', but Jussi won in the end. The name comes from a character in the 1924 and 1936 Pohjalaisia films. The awards were originally organized by the ''Elokuvajournalistit'' organization, but the task was transferred in the early 1960s to the ''Filmiaura'' organization, composed of around 300 members working in the Finnish film industry. Because of the controversy surrounding the transfer, no awards were handed out in 1960 and 1961. Markus Selin
Markus Selin (born 16 March 1960) is a Finnish television and film producer. Career Selin was born in Vihti. His first feature was conceived in the mid-1980s. At a party in Los Angeles, he was introduced to fellow Finn Renny Harlin. The two collaborated on a script about three Americans vacationing in Finland who cross the border into the Soviet Union. They approached Chuck Norris to star and he initially agreed but later had to pull out after the production was delayed due to financing problems. His son Mike Norris took over the lead. Selin and Harlin funded the first part of production themselves and then shopped around with the resulting 20-minute demo reel. Selin was eventually able to secure co-production financing from the U.S. for what became the most expensive film ever produced in Finland.
