Sokolniki District (russian: райо́н Соко́льники) is a administrative divisions of Moscow, district of the Eastern Administrative Okrug of the federal cities of Russia, federal city of Moscow located in the north-east corner of the city. Population: Etymology Sokolniki derives its name from the word "" (''sokol'', meaning "falcon") in view of the Tsar's falcon hunting grounds which were located there, primarily on the territory of the present-day Sokolniki Park. The federal city of Moscow, Russia is divided into administrative districts called okrugs, which are a subdivision of state administration. Falcon
Falcons () are birds of prey in the genus ''Falco'', which includes about 40 species. Falcons are widely distributed on all continents of the world except Antarctica, though closely related raptors did occur there in the Eocene. Sokolniki Park
Sokolniki Park, named for the falconry, falcon hunt of the Grand Dukes of Muscovy formerly conducted there, is located in the eponymous Sokolniki District of Moscow. Sokolniki Park is not far from the center of the Moscow, city, near Sokolnicheskaya Gate. The park gained its name from the Sokolnichya Quarter, the 17th-century home of the sovereign's Grand Falconer of France, falconers (sokol (сокол) is the Russian word for falcon). It was created by Tsar Alexis of Russia, Alexei Mikhailovich (father of Peter the Great), a keen hunter who loved to go falconing in the area. The park's current layout of clearings and alleys began under Tsar Peter I of Russia, Peter the Great. In 1900 a "labyrinth", or network of alleys, was laid out. Sokolniki (Metro)
Sokolniki (russian: Соко́льники) is a Moscow Metro station in the Sokolniki District, Eastern Administrative Okrug, Moscow. It is on the Sokolnicheskaya Line, between Krasnoselskaya and Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad stations. It is located under Rusakovskaya street at the foot of Sokolnicheskaya Square and was part of the first Metro line. The station is named after the nearby Sokolniki Park. By 2022, the station will be open as part of the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line with name Sokolniki (). History The northeastern end of the line, including Sokolniki, was built using the cut and cover method.
