Soft Circle
Soft Circle is the project of New York City based musician Hisham Bharoocha. His debut album, '' Full Bloom'', was released January 23, 2007, on the Eastern Developments Music record label. His sound is characterized by looped guitar riffs, drums, and repeated vocals. In 2009 Ben Vida (formerly of Town & Country) joined Soft Circle. The duo released an album entitled "Shore Obsessed" on November 6, 2010. Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Hisham Akira Bharoocha (born March 12, 1974 in Niigata Prefecture, Niigata, Japan) is an American musician and visual artist best known as an ex-member of the Providence, Rhode Island, Providence bands Lightning Bolt (band), Lightning Bolt and Black Dice. Currently, Bharoocha is involved in his band Soft Circle and works as an artist in New York City. Biography Early life Hisham was born in Niigata, Japan, to a Japanese mother and Burmese father. As a newborn, the family moved to Tokyo and then to Toronto when he was two, then to Los Angeles when he was six, and spent the rest of his elementary school years in San Diego. High Places
High Places is a band originating from Brooklyn, New York, that subsequently relocated to Los Angeles, California. The band is a duo comprising multi-instrumentalist Rob Barber and vocalist Mary Pearson. Pearson and Barber met while Mary was completing a music degree in bassoon performance at Western Michigan University and Rob was working in visual art, teaching lithography and etching in New York. Both were performing as solo musicians at the time, Mary as Transformation Surprise, and Rob as the Urxed. The two began collaborating under the name High Places in May 2006, after Mary relocated to New York. High Places, has performed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art the New Museum and the Kitchen in New York City. They have performed at the Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden as part of Doug Aitken's SONG 1 (2012) in Washington DC. PPM Records
Post Present Medium (or PPM) is an Independent Record Label l started and run by Dean Allen Spunt, also from the band No Age. Spunt started the label in 2001 with the release of a 7" by Portland/Olympia post punk band The Intima. Initial funding came from a settlment Spunt received as a teenager, when he got into a car accident with a member of the Backstreet Boys. PPM has released records from artists that include Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda, Barr, Best Coast, No Age, Gun Outfit, Silk Flowers, John Wiese, Eric Copeland, Infinite Body, and SFV Acid. PPM has at least 75 releases to date. Releases typically get 500 to 1000 pressings.
