Sofia Zengo Papadhimitri
Sofia Zengo Papadhimitri, also Sofia Papadhimitri (19 March 1915 - 13 June 1976) was an Albanian painter, who with her sister Androniqi Zengo Antoniu, is credited as one of Albania's first professional women painters. Biography Sofia Zengo was born on 19 March 1915 in Korçë to an artistic family. She was the daughter of Vangjel Zengo, an iconographer, and his wife Vasiliqa. She took her first drawing lessons in Korçë under the supervision of Vangjush Mio. In 1934, she went with her sister to study at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 1939, she graduated with honours for painting, in the class of the famous Greek impressionist, Spiros Vikatos. During her studies, together with her father, she painted the interior of the Holy Trinity Church in Korçë. During the Second World War, she painted icons and portraits. The Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA; el, Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών, ΑΣΚΤ, literally: Highest School of Fine Arts), is Greece's premier Art school whose main objective is to develop the artistic talents of its students. Androniqi Zengo Antoniu
Androniqi Zengo Antoniu (26 May 1913 – 10 February 2000) was an Albanian painter. She is considered to the first professional woman painter from Albania, along with her sister Sofia Zengo Papadhimitri, and with Vangjush Mijo is credited with the introduction of impressionism to the country. Biography Androniqi Zengo was born on 26 May 1913 in Korçë less than a year after the Albanian Declaration of Independence, and was the daughter of the icon painter Vangjel Zengo. Her sister Sofia was born in 1915. She graduated with honours in painting and sculpture from the Athens School of Fine Arts. After studying in Paris, she returned to Albania to teach at the Nëna Mbretëreshë Pedagogical Institute. Korçë
Korçë (; sq-definite, Korça) is the eighth most populous city of the Republic of Albania and the seat of Korçë County and Korçë Municipality. Vangjush Mio
Vangjush Mio (3 March 1891 – 30 December 1957) was an Albanian impressionist painter. He was the brother of the Albanian film director and actor Sokrat Mio. Life and work Mio was born on 3 March 1891 in Korçë, Albania. In 1908 due to economic reasons he had to leave together with his brother to Bucharest, Romania. He was active member of the Albanian artist colony in the Romanian capital and in 1915 he started his studies of Fine Arts at the Bucharest National University of Arts. He successfully completed his education in 1919 and in the same year he opened his first personal exhibition in Bucharest. In 1920 he returned for a few months to his native country and exhibited his works in Korçë. This was the first art exhibition in public in the whole country. Spyridon Vikatos
Spyridon Vikatos ( el, Σπυρίδων Βικάτος; 24 September 1878 – 6 June 1960) was a Greek painter, one of the later members of the Munich School. Life Spyridon Vikatos was born in Argostoli, Cephalonia, in 1878. He was assisted by the German Archbishop of Athens to study painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he was taught by Nikiforos Lytras and Spyridon Prosalentis. He went on to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich where he studied with Nikolaos Gyzis and Ludwig von Löfftz. He was awarded the silver medal and a prize in a drawing competition in 1903. He returned to Athens and taught at the School of Fine Arts from 1909 until 1940. Sofia Zengo Papadhimitri, Yiannis Spyropoulos and Victor Ioannides were among his pupils. National Museum Of Fine Arts (Albania)
The National Museum of Fine Arts ( sq, Galeria Kombëtare e Arteve) is a national art museum in Tirana, Albania, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. It features the work of well-known Albanian artist, such as Sadik Kaceli. In October 2021, the gallery was temporarily closed to allow for significant construction work to take place such as the revamping of the current structure and the building of a new one nearby. The works are expected to last until end of 2023. In the meantime, plans include the digitization of art work at the AlbaFilm studios.
