Soe Win ( my, စိုးဝင်း; ; born 1 March 1961) is a Burmese army general and current Deputy Prime Minister of Myanmar following the formation of the caretaker government on 1 August 2021. He also serves as vice chairman of the State Administration Council, deputy commander-in-chief of the Tatmadaw (Myanmar armed forces) and commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Army. He is also a member of Myanmar's National Defence and Security Council. In May 2012, former president of Myanmar Thein Sein appointed him to the working committee of the government team responsible for negotiating with Myanmar's many armed ethnic rebel groups. Soe Win ( my, စိုးဝင်း ; born 13 December 1938) is the former Minister for Planning and Finance of Myanmar (Burma). He is a financial professional and previously served as the managing partner of Deloitte in Myanmar. Early life and education Soe Win was born in Moulmein, British Burma (now Mawlamyaing, Myanmar) on 13 December 1938 to parents U Tin and Daw Ngwe Pwint. He possesses BA, LLB and DMA qualifications. He is married to Mar Mar Swe. Career Soe Win entered the banking trade in 1961, joining a state-owned commercial bank as Deputy Manager in 1961. ''Maha Chandra Kumara'' Soe Win ( my, မဟာစန္ဒြကုမာရစိုးဝင်း; born 15 January 1948) is a retired Burmese diplomat, prince and senior male member of the Royal House of Konbaung as the Pretender to the Throne of Burma (abolished in 1885) since 2019. He is the eldest son of Prince Taw Phaya Gyi and great-grandson of King Thibaw and Chief Queen Supayalat. In 2017, Soe Win requested the Thai royal family and government to stop airing the Thai historical drama ''Plerng Phra Nang'', loosely based on Hsinbyumashin's life, claiming it insulted the Burmese royal family. Soe Win ( my, စိုးဝင်း; 1961 – 25 July 2020), also known as U Soe, was the bodyguard and close confidant of the State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi. He has served Aung Sann Suu Kyi since the early days of her democracy movement until she transitioned to lead the current government.
