Société Royale Saint-Hubert
A kennel club (known as a kennel council or canine council in some countries) is an organization for canine affairs that concerns itself with the breeding, showing and promotion of more than one breed of dog. All-encompassing kennel clubs are also referred to as 'all-breed clubs', although "all" means only those breeds that they have decided to recognize, and "breed" means purebred dogs, not including dog hybrids and crossbreeds or mixed-breed dogs. The Kennel Club of India is a registry of purebred dogs in India. As well as maintaining a registry of pedigrees, the club promotes and sanctions events for purebred dogs, including annual dog shows and specialty shows. The Kennel Club of India is a member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. The Kennel Club of India is also one of the few kennel clubs to be members of the International Organization for Standardization. History There were several established kennel clubs in India during the British colonial period from 1857 to 1947, including in Hyderabad, Ootacamund, Mysore, and Calcutta. The Kennel Union of Southern Africa (formerly the South African Kennel Club and the South African Kennel Union) is the official kennel club of South Africa. The club was founded as the South African Kennel Club in 1891 when the Southern African Kennel Club of Port Elizabeth formed an affiliation with the South African Kennel Club of Cape Town. The first documented dog show in South Africa took place in 1883 at the Albany Agricultural Show; the Port Elizabeth club was founded a week later, and the Cape Town club was founded in 1889. The New Zealand Kennel Club (now known as Dogs News Zealand, and also known as Dogs NZ and NZKC) is the primary kennel club responsible for dog pedigree registration services in New Zealand. Founded in 1902, it currently represents around 200 breed clubs with 150,000 members, and is a member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). The East Africa Kennel Club is the official kennel club of the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. The East Africa Kennel Club was founded in October 1919 at a dog show held at the old Nairobi Racecourse, this two day event was held in conjunction with the newly formed Agricultural Society (later Royal Agricultural Society) of Kenya, in 1921 the club became officially affiliated with The Kennel Club in the United Kingdom. The club continued to use the old Nairobi Racecourse for their Nairobi shows until the 1950s, in 1954 the club completed construction of purpose built facilities on the land of the Royal Agricultural Society at Jamhuri Park near the city centre.
