''Snow In June'' is the third major label album by The Northern Pikes released in 1990. It featured three hit singles - "Kiss Me You Fool", "She Ain't Pretty", and "Girl With a Problem". The album features guest appearances from notable performers such as Crystal Taliefero, Garth Hudson, and John Sebastian. Commercial performance ''Snow In June'' was the band's most successful album, being certified Platinum in Canada, their only album to do so. It was the eighth-best selling Cancon album in Canada of 1990. The Northern Pikes
The Northern Pikes are a Canadian rock band formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1984. The original members are Jay Semko, Bryan Potvin, Merl Bryck and Glen Hollingshead, who left the band in 1985 and was replaced by Don Schmid in June 1986. The band was active until 1993 and toured and recorded again from 1999 through to the present. The Northern Pikes were inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame on Sunday, September 30, 2012, in Regina, Saskatchewan. The band released its ninth record of original material, ''Forest of Love'', on June 7, 2019. ''RPM'' ( and later ) was a Canadian music-industry publication that featured song and album charts for Canada. The publication was founded by Walt Grealis in February 1964, supported through its existence by record label owner Stan Klees. ''RPM'' ceased publication in November 2000. ''RPM'' stood for "Records, Promotion, Music". The magazine's title varied over the years, including ''RPM Weekly'' and ''RPM Magazine''. Hugh Charles Padgham (born 15 February 1955) is an English record producer and audio engineer. He has won four Grammy Awards, for Producer of the Year and Album of the Year for 1985, Record of the Year for 1990, and Engineer of the Year for 1993. Ian Tanner
Ian Tanner is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has performed in rock bands since the mid-1980s. He was a founding member of Christian rock group The Awakening (1985–89), and later went on to form the band One Hundred Days with his fellow Awakening member, Andrew Horrocks. One Hundred Days performed from 1990 until 2000 when Tanner left the band and the group disbanded. He currently works as a producer, composer and studio musician and tours with various recording artists, mostly from Canada. Stan Szelest
Stanley Martin Szelest (February 11, 1942 – January 20, 1991) was an American musician from Buffalo, New York, known for founding an influential blues band in the 1950s and 1960s, Stan and the Ravens, and later as a keyboardist with Ronnie Hawkins and, briefly, with The Band. Biography In 1958, Szelest formed Stan and the Ravens, a blues group that became popular in western New York. New York producer David Lucas recorded sessions with the group, resulting in the release "Farmer's Daughter" a song written by Szelest. Lucas also recorded a song entitled, "Howlin' for My Darlin" and b-side, "It Won't Be Long Now" using the name, the Rivals instead of Stan and the Ravens for the Spector/Wand label. "She Ain't Pretty" is a single by Canadian rock band The Northern Pikes, from their 1990 album ''Snow in June''. It is the song for which the Pikes are best known. The song was written by Bryan Potvin. It describes the singer's infatuation with a physically attractive woman, and his dismay at learning that she is a horrible person—a " model from Hell". The genesis of the song was Potvin watching an episode of ''Rhoda'' where a character says "I'm not really beautiful, I just look that way." John Peter "Jay" Semko is a singer/songwriter and bassist with Canadian band, The Northern Pikes. He is also a music composer for numerous film and television productions, most notably the successful Canadian television series ''Due South''. Bryan Potvin
Bryan Anthony Potvin (born May 31, 1963, in Ottawa) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. History Potvin began guitar lessons at the age of 13 in Victoria, B.C. His family re-located to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he continued his music studies. In 1984, Bryan, along with Jay Semko, Don Schmid and Merl Bryck formed The Northern Pikes. The band signed a world-wide recording contract with Virgin Records in the winter of 1986. Their seven-album catalogue sold in excess of 1 million units globally and garnered the band eight Juno Award nominations. In 1993, the group took a six-year hiatus, citing fatigue. With fellow band member Jay Semko, Potvin co-wrote the theme for the television series ''Due South''. From 1994 to 2000, Potvin was the A&R manager for PolyGram in Canada.
