Jakob Smits
Jakob Smits or Jacob Smits (Rotterdam, 9 July 1855 – Achterbos (Mol), 15 February 1928) was a Dutch-Flemish painter. Background and early life He was born a son of a decorator. Jakob studied in Rotterdam at the academy and helped his father in the decoration business. From 1873 to 1876 he studied at the Academy in Brussels, and after in Munich (1878–1880), Vienna (1880) and Rome (1880). In 1882 Jakob married his cousin Antje Doetje Kramer. They settled in Amsterdam where Smits worked as a painter. He carried out, among other things, tasks for the museum Boijmans-Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. Rik Smits (born 23 August 1966), nicknamed "the Dunking Dutchman" is a Dutch former professional basketball player who spent his entire career with the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Joshua Gerardus Petrus Wilhelmus Smits (born 6 November 1992) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Willem II. George Smits (Antwerp, 1944–1997), aka 'Toet', was a Belgian visual artist, comics artist, radio presenter, experimental musician and inventor of experimental musical instruments. Biography In the sixties, he was a member of the band of Ferre Grignard. Lukas Smits (born 23 May 1935 in Ravenswaaij) is a Dutch painter. Lukas Smits was born in Ravenswaaij (Buren) and studied both at the Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch and at the Jan van Eyck-Academy in Maastricht. In 1959 he received the Royal Subsidy for Painting, which was followed by the City of Maastricht Prize (1962), another Royal Subsidy for Painting (1962) and a travel grant from the French government (1964).
