The Northern Ireland Ladies Open was a professional golf tournament on the Ladies European Tour (LET) held in Northern Ireland. A Northern Ireland tournament was a fixture on the LET schedule since the tour's inception in 1979. In 1984 the tournament featured on the LPGA Tour along with the Women's British Open. The latest installment, in 2007, took place at Templepatrick Golf and Country Club near Belfast, with a prize fund of €200,000. County Down
County Down () is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland, one of the nine counties of Ulster and one of the traditional thirty-two counties of Ireland. It covers an area of and has a population of 531,665. It borders County Antrim to the north, the Irish Sea to the east, County Armagh to the west, and County Louth across Carlingford Lough to the southwest. 1982 Ladies European Tour
The 1982 Ladies European Tour was the fourth season of golf tournaments organised by the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). There were ten tournaments on the schedule including the Women's British Open, organised by the Ladies' Golf Union. The tour experienced difficulties during 1982. Having lost several sponsors during 1981 due to economic problems, their principal supporter Carlsberg had also departed. Twelve new tournaments were planned to fill out the calendar but only half took place, including Ford Ladies Classic and the Ladies Spanish Open. Plans for new events in Ireland, France, West Germany and Portugal were abandoned, and several other tournaments were cancelled during the season, including the British Women's Matchplay and two of the new events. Beverly Lewis (golfer)
Beverly Marie Lewis (née Jones) is an American Christian fiction novelist and adult and children's author of over 100 books. Lewis is a former schoolteacher and musician. She started playing the piano at age four, and began writing short stories and poetry when she was nine years old. Much of her writing focuses on the Old Order Amish. Her maternal grandmother, Ada Ranck Buchwalter, was born into an Old Order Mennonite Church, which interested Lewis in her own "plain heritage." Her father was a pastor in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch community), where she was born and grew up. She was raised and continues to be part of the Assemblies of God community. She went to Evangel University, and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2003. Catherine Rita Panton-Lewis (born 14 June 1955) is a Scottish professional golfer who was a founding member of the Ladies European Tour and won its first Order of Merit. Her father was John Panton, MBE, a professional golfer who played on three Ryder Cup teams. Panton was born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland. As an amateur, she won the British Ladies Amateur in 1976, winning 1-up over Alison Sheard. Later that year, she was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Espirito Santo Trophy team. Kathrynne Ann Whitworth (September 27, 1939 – December 24, 2022) was an American professional golfer. During her playing career she won 88 LPGA Tour tournaments, more than anyone else on the LPGA or PGA Tours. Whitworth was also a runner-up 93 times, giving her 181 top-two finishes. 1983 Ladies European Tour
The 1983 Ladies European Tour was the fifth season of golf tournaments organised on behalf of the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). There were 17 tournaments on the schedule. There was a major organisational change from the end of the 1982 season, which ended with the future of the tour in doubt after several tournaments were cancelled. Following action in the High Court, the departure of executive director Barry Edwards, who was also responsible for the tour's marketing, was secured, and administration of the tour was taken over by the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA). The new executive director of the WPGA was Colin Snape, who had previously been a director at the PGA. Liselotte Maria "Lotta" Neumann (born 20 May 1966) is a Swedish professional golfer. When she recorded her first LPGA Tour win, by claiming the 1988 U.S. Women's Open title, Neumann also became the first Swedish golfer, male or female, to win a major championship. Muriel Thomson
Muriel Natalie Thomson (born 12 December 1954) is a retired Scottish professional golfer. Thomson was an amateur golfer in Scotland before playing on the Ladies European Tour from 1979 to 1989. During her time on the tour, she won the Order of Merit title in 1980 and 1983 while winning nine tournaments overall.
