The Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship is a Motorcycle speedway championship held each year to determine the Slovenian national champion. It was first staged in 1978. Matej Žagar holds the record, winning 18 championships. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . There are now both domestic and international competitions in a number of countries, including the Speedway World Cup, whilst the highest overall scoring individual in the Speedway Grand Prix events is pronounced the world champion. Matic Ivačič
Matic Ivačič (born 8 September 1993) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Slovenia. He is a four time national champion. Honours In 2020, Ivačič became the Slovenian National Champion after winning the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship, which ended the 18 year reign of Matej Žagar. Ivačič had previously won the silver medal behind Žagar in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, he became the Slovenia-Slovakia-Hungary National Champion. Nick Škorja
Nick Škorja (born 28 July 1998) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider. Career Škorja appeared twice as a track reserve in the 2016 Speedway Grand Prix and once at the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix and 2018 Speedway Grand Prix. He has finished runner-up in the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship in 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2022. He reached the finals of both the 2018 Speedway Under-21 World Championship and 2019 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. In 2019 he was selected for the Slovenian team for the 2019 Speedway of Nations. He would have made his British league debut for Newcastle Diamonds in 2020 but the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aleksander Čonda
Aleksander Čonda (born 26 August 1990) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider. Career Čonda was a member of the Slovenian national team at 2009 Speedway World Cup. He medalled six times at the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship. Although he won 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals he never became champion of Slovenia, being denied the gold medal 3 times by Matej Žagar. Maks Gregorič (born 26 August 1985) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Slovenia. Career Gregorič was a member of Slovenian national team for who he earned seven international caps and represented them at four World Cups including the 2009 Speedway World Cup semi finals. He rode for the Kolejarz Rawicz in the Polish Second League and started racing in the British leagues during the 2009 Premier League speedway season, when riding for the Redcar Bears and also rode for them during the 2010 season.
