Slottsskogen
Slottsskogen (, "Castle Forest") is a 137-hectare park located in central Gothenburg, Sweden. History When Gothenburg was founded in the 17th century, the area of Slottsskogen was a forest that belonged to the Old Älvsborg fortress. In the 1880s the city had grown to the vicinity of the forest, and merchant August Kobb took initiative to create the city park, which has the character of an English garden with lawns and trees. Activities Slottsskogen has a wide range of activities: there is Slottsskogens djurpark, a zoo with Swedish animals, a pond with seals and penguins, a Swedish heritage area with small cottages from different counties, a playground for football, softball, frisbee golf and so forth. Slottsskogen is also the home of the Way Out West Festival, which occurs annually. Way Out West Festival
Way Out West is a three-day music festival held in Gothenburg, Sweden, during August that plays host to a variety of popular music artists mainly from the rock, electronic and hip-hop genres. The main festival is complemented with the club concept Stay Out West which features after-hours gigs at various venues around the city. History The first festival was held in August 2007 in Slottsskogen on Friday and Saturday and at club venues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. In 2012 the festival became a full-fledged three-day festival with live music in Slottsskogen even on Thursday. In addition to music, the festival has also grown to incorporate other cultural activities such as art exhibitions in Slottsskogen and film showings at cinemas around the city. Slottsskogens Djurpark
Slottskogens djurpark is a Swedish zoo in the park Slottsskogen, located in the town Gothenburg in Sweden. It is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Partially opened for public in 1876, Slottskogens djurpark is one of the oldest zoos in Sweden. There is no entrance fee charged. Among the species displayed is Swedish animals, a pond with seals and penguins. During summer season, a children zoo is open, where children can meet animals like goats, sheep and pigs. Animals The zoo keeps several wild species of animals, primarily from the Nordic countries, such as moose, but also a handful of species from further abroad such as penguins. In addition to wild animals, the zoo also works to conserve some traditional heritage breeds of Nordic domestic animals. In 2021, an old pond was remodelled to house the Swedish yellow duck (Sw. Shoreline Memorial
The Shoreline memorial is a monument located in Slottsskogen, a large park in central Gothenburg, Sweden. The installation commemorates the location of the final reunion of the band Broder Daniel in 2008. History Broder Daniel, a Gothenburg alternative rock group, was formed in 1989 by the two classmates Henrik Berggren and Daniel Gilbert. The band was inspired by among others The Jesus and Mary Chain, Iggy Pop, and The Velvet Underground, and relied heavily on distorted guitars and simple arrangements. Their lyrics mostly centred on existential issues and youth angst. After a few years of name changes, the band expanded its membership, and eventually put out their first album in 1995 (''Saturday Night Engine'', with EMI). Disc golf, also known as frisbee golf, is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf. Most disc golf discs are made out of polypropylene plastic, otherwise known as polypropene, which is a thermoplastic polymer resin used in a wide variety of applications.
