Slightly $toopid
''Slightly $toopid'' is the first full-length album by Slightly Stoopid and was released in 1996 on Skunk Records. On the original 1996 Skunk Records print, the CD included two hidden tracks after "To a Party." The first hidden song is "Prophet" with the late Bradley Nowell of Sublime playing bass. The second hidden song is "Marley Medley" which contains "Guava Jelly" and "This Train," both Bob Marley covers. The printing was very limited at an estimated 1000 copies. Since the original prints were made before Slightly Stoopid were well known, they are rare and hard to come by. Original prints used to sell on eBay consistently at around $300 because of its out of print status and the demand for the hidden track with Bradley Nowell. It was out of print for 10 years and in 2006 was re-released together with their second album '' Longest Barrel Ride'' as a double album. Both albums were out of print. Slightly Stoopid
Slightly Stoopid is an American band based in the Ocean Beach neighborhood of San Diego, California, who describe their music as "a fusion of folk, rock, reggae and blues with hip-hop, funk, metal and punk." As a band, they have released thirteen albums (four live), with their ninth studio album entitled ''Everyday Life, Everyday People'' on July 13, 2018. The band was originally signed by Bradley Nowell from the band Sublime to his label Skunk Records while still in high school. Skunk Records is a Long Beach, California based record label that was founded by Michael "Miguel" Happoldt and Bradley Nowell in 1990. The label also operates a subsidiary, Cornerstone R.A.S. The record label originally produced records for Sublime and The Ziggens. The label also produces records for Long Beach Dub Allstars, Long Beach Shortbus, and Burn Unit. On September 16, 2009, Suburban Noize Records purchased Skunk Records and its catalog for an undisclosed sum. Michael Happoldt
Michael "Miguel" Happoldt is an American musician, producer, songwriter, mixing engineer, and label executive. Happoldt was born July 5, 1969, in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised between Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Lakeland, Florida. Upon graduating high school in 1987, he moved to Carson, California, to attend California State University, Dominguez Hills, where he studied audio recording and music production. While at CSUDH, he met the alternative rock group The Ziggens. He began recording and producing with the group and eventually joining to record their first album, ''C0002''. Inspired by the punk rock and DIY movements of SST Records, BYO and Dischord Records records, in 1989 Happoldt created the logo and label called Skunk Records and released The Ziggens' album on cassette. Bradley Nowell
Bradley James Nowell (February 22, 1968 – May 25, 1996) was an American musician and the lead singer and guitarist of the ska punk band Sublime. Born and raised in Belmont Shore, Long Beach, California, Nowell developed an interest in music at a young age. His father took him on a trip to Jamaica during his childhood years, which exposed him to reggae and dancehall music; he then gained a strong interest in rock music once he learned how to play guitar. Nowell played in various bands until forming Sublime with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, whom he had met while attending California State University at Long Beach. In his lifetime, Sublime released the albums '' 40oz. to Freedom'' and ''Robbin' the Hood'' to critical and commercial success. ''The Longest Barrel Ride'' is the second album by the band Slightly Stoopid, released by Skunk Records on November 21, 1998. This album incorporates various elements of reggae, punk, and ska. The track "Violence/FTP" contains a re-recording of "Fuck The Police" from their earlier album, Slightly $toopid. The track "To Little Too Late" is also featured on their acoustic LP, '' Acoustic Roots: Live & Direct''. ''The Longest Barrel Ride'' has two distinct medleys, one starting from "I'm So Stoned" and ending at "Crazy Riff", and another from "Violence/FTP" to "Metal Madness". The first medley has a calmer tone than the aggressive latter. The song "Slightly Stoopid" contains a guitar riff version of " When The Saints Come Marching In". "Free Dub" contains two hidden tracks, the first being a cover of The Fugs' "I Couldn't Get High" and the second being a song entitled "Nico's." Sublime (band)
Sublime was an American reggae rock and ska punk band from Long Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band's line-up, consistent throughout its duration, consisted of Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums). Lou Dog, Nowell's dalmatian, was the mascot of the band. Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, resulting in the band's breakup. This Train
"This Train", also known as "This Train Is Bound for Glory", is a traditional American gospel song first recorded in 1922. Although its origins are unknown, the song was relatively popular during the 1920s as a religious tune, and it became a gospel hit in the late 1930s for singer-guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe. After switching from acoustic to electric guitar, Tharpe released a more secular version of the song in the early 1950s. The song's popularity was also due in part to the influence of folklorists John A. Opie Ortiz is an American artist specializing in tattoos, pop art and murals. Ortiz is best known for his art featured on Sublime album covers. Murals painted by Ortiz can be found in and around Long Beach, California. Career Ortiz operated American Beauty Tattoo for approximately seven years before opening World Famous Tattoo.
