Slick Lollar
John Hope "Slick" Lollar (October 4, 1905 – May 7, 1945) was an American football back for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Samford. He played high school football at Walker High School. Biography Lollar was born on October 4, 1905, in Alabama. He played high school football for Walker High School in Jasper, Alabama. He went on to play college football for Samford before joining the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL) for the 1928 NFL season. He died on May 7, 1945. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. Jasper, Alabama
Jasper is a city in and the county seat of Walker County, Alabama, United States. Its population was 14,352 as of the 2010 census. Named in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, an American Revolutionary War hero, Jasper was settled around 1815 and incorporated on August 18, 1886. The first significant growth of the area was in 1886, when the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad and the Sheffield & Birmingham Railroads were completed through Jasper. The population grew from 200 people in 1886 to more than 3,000 in 1890. In a special edition in 1891, the ''Mountain Eagle'' stated there were six coal mines, two sandstone quarries, 400 coke ovens, one foundry and machine shop, two saw mills, one brick works, four hotels, and two banks. 1928 NFL Season
The 1928 NFL season was the ninth regular season of the National Football League. The league dropped to 10 teams as the Cleveland Bulldogs and the Duluth Eskimos both folded before the season, while the Rochester Jeffersons, after missing two seasons of play, also folded, and the Buffalo Bisons also had a year out from the league. The Detroit Wolverines were added as an expansion team. The Providence Steam Roller were named the NFL champions after finishing the season with the best record. Teams The league dropped to ten teams in 1928. Championship race After four weeks, the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Wolverines were both unbeaten. On October 21, the Packers beat the Bears, 16–6, leaving Detroit, at 2–0–0, at the top of the standings.
