Skymas Chase
The Skymas Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Down Royal over a distance of about 2 miles and 3½ furlongs (2 miles, 3 furlongs and 120 yards, or 3,931 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in November. The race was first run in 1999. It was awarded Grade 3 status in 2003 and then raised again in 2009, to Grade 2 status. Prior to 2003 the race was run over 2 miles and 2 furlongs. The race is named after Skymas, winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 1976 and 1977, who was trained near Down Royal. It has been run under various sponsored titles since its inauguration. In horse racing in the United Kingdom, France and Republic of Ireland, National Hunt racing requires horses to jump fences and ditches. National Hunt racing in the UK is informally known as "jumps" and is divided into two major distinct branches: hurdles and steeplechases. Alongside these there are "bumpers", which are National Hunt flat races. In a hurdles race, the horses jump over obstacles called hurdles; in a steeplechase the horses jump over a variety of obstacles that can include plain fences, water jump or an open ditch. In the UK the biggest National Hunt events of the year are generally considered to be the Grand National and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Rachael Blackmore
Rachael Blackmore (born 11 July 1989) is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. In 2021, she became the first female jockey to win the Grand National in the 182-year history of the race. She also became the first woman to be leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival with six victories, including the Champion Hurdle, in 2021. The following year she became the first female jockey to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Envoi Allen
Envoi Allen (foaled 16 February 2014) is a French-bred thoroughbred racehorse competing in National Hunt racing. Career Envoi Allen was bred in France and first raced in Ireland in a point to point at Ballinaboola where he won by 10 lengths. He was sold at the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham February Sale for £400,000. Bloodstock agent Tom Malone purchased the horse on behalf of David and Patricia Thompson of Cheveley Park Stud. Trained by Gordon Elliott in Ireland, Envoi Allen won his first 11 races under rules. Mark Walsh (born 23 March 1986) is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Walsh comes from Clane, County Kildare and rode his first winner on Shrug at Punchestown in September 2002. Paul Townend
Paul Townend (born 15 September 1990) is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Townend comes from Midleton in County Cork and rides primarily for the stable of Irish trainer Willie Mullins. Townend has worked for Mullins since beginning his career as an apprentice flat racing jockey. He was Irish jump racing Champion Jockey for the 2010–11, 2018–19, 2019–20, 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons. Henry De Bromhead
Henry de Bromhead (born 28 October 1972) is an Irish horse trainer who specialises in training horses for National Hunt racing. He has trained a number of Grade 1 winners including Sizing John and Honeysuckle, and is based at stables in Knockeen, County Waterford Career He commenced racehorse training in 2000, having taken over the family stable from his father, Harry. David Mullins (jockey)
David James Mullins (born 6 June 1996) is a former National Hunt jockey. He is the son of Tom Mullins and grandson of Paddy Mullins. He was one of the retained jockeys for his uncle, the multiple Irish champion trainer Willie Mullins. Sam Twiston-Davies is a British National Hunt racing jockey. He was the retained jockey of ten-times British jump racing Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls. Gordon Elliott (born 2 March 1978) is a County Meath-based National Hunt racehorse trainer. After riding as an amateur jockey, he took out a trainer's licence in 2006. He was 29 when his first Grand National entry, the 33 to 1 outsider Silver Birch, won the 2007 race.
