Mark Walsh (jockey)
Mark Walsh (born 23 March 1986) is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Walsh comes from Clane, County Kildare and rode his first winner on Shrug at Punchestown in September 2002. He frequently rides for owner J. P. McManus and has achieved major wins for McManus on Jezki in the World Series Hurdle, Carlingford Lough in the Irish Gold Cup and Espoir d'Allen in the Champion Hurdle. Champion Stayers Hurdle
The Champion Stayers Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in Ireland which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Punchestown over a distance of about 3 miles (4,828 metres), and during its running there are fourteen hurdles to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year during the Punchestown Festival in late April. The race was known as the Tipperkevin Hurdle in the mid 1990s, and it was renamed the Champion Stayers Hurdle in 1997. It was sponsored by Ballymore Properties for much of the following decade, and was renamed the World Series Hurdle. Ladbrokes began supporting the race in 2008. It reverted to its former name in 2017. The Champion Stayers Hurdle is the Irish equivalent of Britain's Stayers' Hurdle, and the last horse to win both races in the same year was Anzum in 1999. The Maghull Novices' Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Aintree over a distance of about 2 miles (1 mile 7 furlong and 176 yards, or 3,178 metres), and during its running there are twelve fences to be jumped. The race is for novice chasers, and it is scheduled to take place each year during the Grand National meeting in early April. The event was established in 1954, and it has been known by various titles. It is currently named after Maghull, a town located to the north of Aintree. For a period the race was classed at Grade 2 level, and it was promoted to Grade 1 status in 1995. The Liverpool Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Aintree over a distance of about 3 miles and ½ furlong (3 miles and 149 yards, or 4,964 metres), and during its running there are thirteen hurdles to be jumped. Ascot Chase
The Ascot Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Ascot over a distance of about 2 miles and 5 furlongs (2 miles, 5 furlongs and 85 yards, or ), and during its running there are seventeen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year in February. The event was first run in 1995, as the Comet Chase, and its distance was originally set at 2 miles and 3½ furlongs (3,923 metres). This was modified slightly when the race was temporarily switched to Lingfield Park, and also upon its return to Ascot in 2007. The present length was introduced in 2008. The race was run on a Wednesday until 1998, moving to its current Saturday in 1999. The Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Punchestown over a distance of about 3 miles and ½ furlong (3 miles and 120 yards, or ), and during its running there are seventeen fences to be jumped. The race is for novice chasers, and it is scheduled to take place each year during the Punchestown Festival in late April or early May. Spring Juvenile Hurdle
The Spring Juvenile Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in Ireland. It is run at Leopardstown Racecourse in February, over a distance of 2 miles. The race is restricted to four-year-old horses only and is usually contested by horses who go on to run in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. The race was first run in 1994 as a Listed event, replacing the Le Coq Hardi Hurdle, a Grade 3 all-aged 2 mile Novice Hurdle. The Arkle Novice Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Leopardstown over a distance of about 2 miles and 1 furlong (3,420 metres), and during its running there are eleven fences to be jumped. The race is for novice chasers, and it is scheduled to take place each year in late January. The earliest version of the event was established in 1956, and it was originally contested over 2 miles (3,219 metres). Its current title pays tribute to Arkle, a winner of this race in 1963. At the time of Arkle's victory the event was known as the Milltown Novice Chase. The distance was extended by 2 furlongs in 1980, and by another furlong in 1992. The Faugheen Novice Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt race in Ireland. It is run at Limerick Racecourse in December over a distance of about 2 miles and 3½ furlongs (2 miles 3 furlongs and 160 yards, or 3,968 metres). The Fort Leney Novice Chase, currently ran as the Neville Hotels Novice Chase, is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland. It is run over a distance of 3 miles (4,828 metres) at Leopardstown and during its running there are 17 fences to be jumped. It takes place annually during the Christmas Festival meeting, usually on 29 December. The race was previously run as a Grade 3 and Grade 2 race, before being awarded Grade 1 status in 2003.
