Ascot Chase
The Ascot Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Ascot over a distance of about 2 miles and 5 furlongs (2 miles, 5 furlongs and 85 yards, or ), and during its running there are seventeen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year in February. The event was first run in 1995, as the Comet Chase, and its distance was originally set at 2 miles and 3½ furlongs (3,923 metres). This was modified slightly when the race was temporarily switched to Lingfield Park, and also upon its return to Ascot in 2007. The present length was introduced in 2008. The race was run on a Wednesday until 1998, moving to its current Saturday in 1999. It replaced the Whitbread Trial Handicap (3 miles 100 yards) on the Wednesday card, a race which was first run in 1966. Monet's Garden (horse)
Monet's Garden was an Irish racehorse. Born in April 1998, he was a winner in 17 of his 32 starts, being placed second four times and third on two other occasions, earning £683,265 total prize money and never having failed to finish a race. The grey gelding was bred by William Delahunty, owned by David Wesley Yates and trained by Nicky Richards at his stables in Greystoke, Cumbria. In 23 of his 32 starts he was ridden by stable jockey Tony Dobbin, the partnership ending with Dobbin's retirement in April 2008. Aintree Record Although Monet's Garden was a winner of big races at Ascot and Huntingdon, he was perhaps best known for his wins at Aintree: Of his 32 career starts, 9 of them were at Aintree, producing 5 wins. He finished runner-up to Garde Champetre in the 2004 Mersey Novices' Hurdle, notably beating Inglis Drever into fourth place with Court Shareef in third. Tim Forster
Captain Timothy Arthur Forster, OBE (27 February 1934 – 21 April 1999) commonly known as Tim Forster, was an English racehorse trainer and previously an amateur jockey. As a trainer he had 1,346 winners, including 3 Grand Nationals at Aintree in Liverpool. Forster's last runner as a Licensed Trainer came on 30 May 1998, when he won with Albermarle in a novice chase at Market Rasen. Family background and early life Forster was born at Cold Ashby Hall, Cold Ashby in Northamptonshire on 27 February 1934. He was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Douglas Forster, who as a racehorse owner had won the Wokingham Stakes at Ascot in 1957 with Light Harvest. He was educated at Eton College and went into the military with the 11th Hussars from 1954 to 1960. Venetia Williams
Venetia Williams (born 10 May 1960) is an English racehorse trainer specialising in National Hunt racing. She is based at stables at Aramstone in Herefordshire, England. Williams was born at Scorrier House, Cornwall and began as a racehorse trainer at Ty-Pengam. She was an amateur National Hunt jockey until forced to retire after suffering a broken neck in 1988. She worked for racehorse trainers Martin Pipe and John Edwards before taking up a licence to train herself in 1995. Her most successful horse to date has been Mon Mome, winner of the 2009 Grand National. This victory made her only the second female trainer to win the race, after Jenny Pitman. Teeton Mill
Teeton Mill (19 May 1989 – November 2014) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse who competed under National Hunt rules. He originally competed in hunter chases, which are confined to horses who have taken part in fox hunting, and won five of his first six races. When moved into open competition he won four consecutive races including the Badger Beer Chase, Hennessy Gold Cup, King George VI Chase and the Ascot Chase before sustaining a career-ending injury in the 1999 Cheltenham Gold Cup. Background Teeton Mill was a grey gelding bred in the United Kingdom by Mrs K I Hayward. He was sired by Neltino who won one of his five races before his racing career was ended by injury as a three-year-old in 1981. One Man (horse)
One Man (1988 – 3 April 1998) was an Irish-bred National Hunt steeplechase racehorse sired by Remainder Man out of the mare Steal On. The popular grey won 20 of 35 races, including the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 1998. He was trained by the late Gordon W. Richards and owned by John Hales. Renowned for his jumping ability and high cruising speed, he was nicknamed his "little bouncing ball" by Richards and was adopted by many as the new Desert Orchid. One Man received a Timeform rating of 179, an outstanding figure.
