Skylarking
''Skylarking'' is the ninth studio album by the English rock band XTC, released 27 October 1986 on Virgin Records. Produced by American musician Todd Rundgren, it is a loose concept album about a nonspecific cycle, such as a day, a year, the seasons, or a life. The title refers to a type of bird (skylark), as well as the Royal Navy term "skylarking", which means "fooling around". It became one of XTC's best-known albums and is generally regarded as their finest work. Like XTC's previous Dukes of Stratosphear side project, ''Skylarking'' was heavily influenced by the music of the 1960s. Most of its recording was at Rundgren's Utopia Sound Studio in Woodstock, New York. Rundgren played a large role in the album's sound design and drum programming, providing the band with orchestral arrangements and an assortment of gear. ''Skylarking'' is the debut studio album by Horace Andy. It was released on Studio One in 1972. Not to be confused with his later album, also titled ''Skylarking'', released in 1996. The backing band was Sound Dimension - Coxsone Dodd's studio band, led by Leroy Sibbles. Reception In 2012, ''Skylarking'' was placed at number 16 on the "Top 50 Reggae Albums" list, which was compiled by Jamaican disc jockey Clinton Lindsay and his colleague Marlon Burrell in commemoration of Jamaica's 50th anniversary as an independent nation. In 2014, ''Mojo'' placed it at number 43 on its list of the "50 Greatest Reggae Albums". In 2016, '' GQ'' named it as one of the "10 Classic LPs from Reggae's Golden Era". ''Skylarkin is Mic Christopher's first and only solo album, which was released posthumously following his death in November 2001. The album was finalised by Karl Odlum (of Mic's old band, The Mary Janes) and David Odlum (of The Frames). Many fellow musicians from the Irish music scene contributed to the album including Glen Hansard and Colm Mac Con Iomaire of The Frames, Rónán Ó Snodaigh of Kíla, Lisa Hannigan and Gemma Hayes. ''Skylarkin' ''entered the Irish charts at #39 in 2002 and in March of the following year won ''Best Irish album'' at the Meteor Awards. November 2004 saw the album achieving Platinum status in Ireland (selling over 15,000 copies). Sky Larkin
Sky Larkin is an English indie rock band from Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, who formed in 2005. Early history In common with many bands from Leeds, Sky Larkin released two singles on the Leeds-based label Dance To The Radio. Songs of theirs appeared on Dance To The Radio compilation albums 'Something I Learned Today' and 'Out Of The Woods And Trees', the former featuring 'Summit' and the latter featuring the Napoleon IIIrd remix of 'Keepsakes' In both 2006 and 2007 they appeared on the unsigned stage at the Leeds Festival. During this time they would play around the UK on bills with the likes of Los Campesinos!, Nosferatu D2, Johnny Foreigner, Wild Beasts and others. In 2008 they released the 'Swit Swoo' EP digitally as a covers collection.
