Skovshoved Church
Skovshoved is a former fishing village on the Øresund coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The area is part of Charlottenlund postal district and Gentofte Municipality. Local landmarks include Skovshoved Church, Sjovshoved Hotel and the listed Arne Jacobsen-designed Skovshoved Petrol Station from 1938. History The first known reference to Skovshoved (''Scogshouet'') is from 1275. It was originally a small fishing village with just a few houses. An inn, Skovshoved Kro, opened in the village in 1660. In 1620 it obtained status of royal privileged inn, enabling it to brew its own beer. Skovshoved was known for its fish wives, ''Skovserkoner'', who would carry the day's catch in caskets on their back to the fish market at Gammel Strand in Copenhagen. The first harbor was built in 1869. In the middle of the 19th century, Skovshoved, like the other fishing villages along the Øresund coast, began to attract summer visitors from Copenhagen. Kashmir (band)
Kashmir is a Danish alternative rock band consisting of Kasper Eistrup (vocals and lead guitar); Mads Tunebjerg (bass); Asger Techau (drums) and Henrik Lindstrand (keyboards and guitar). History In the spring of 1991, Eistrup, Tunebjerg and Techau formed a heavy blues band under the name "Nirvana" at ''Kastanievej Efterskole'', a continuation school, in Frederiksberg, Denmark. Shortly after they started performing Thursday nights at ''Ordrup Gymnasium'', a local high school. When the American band Nirvana started to gain success, they changed their name to "Kashmir", after the Led Zeppelin song. Carl Brummer
Carl Harald Brummer (12 July 1864 – 14 February 1953) was a Danish architect who was influential in the design of homes at the beginning of the 20th century. Biography Brummer was born in Bogense. After attending the Danish Academy from 1888 to 1896, he worked for Ferdinand Meldahl and Hermann Baagøe Storck. He initially became known for Ellestuen, a freely designed country home which was quite different from conventional houses in Denmark. He soon became one of the leading Danish architects for designing private homes between the beginning of the 20th century and the First World War including Svanemøllevej 56 (1904) and Lundevangsvej 12 (1908), both in Copenhagen. Bing & Grøndahl was a Danish porcelain manufacturer founded in 1853 by the sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and merchant brothers Meyer Hermann Bing and Jacob Herman Bing. The trademark backstamp for Bing & Grøndahl (B&G) porcelains is the three towers derived from the Coat of Arms of Copenhagen. The company's ''Seagull'' dinnerware series became known as the "National Service of Denmark" in the 1950s when it was found in one tenth of all Danish households. Meyer Herman Bing
Meyer Herman Bing (4 June 1807 – 15 September 1883) was a Danish businessman. He was a co-founder of Bing & Grøndahl. Early life and education Bing was born in Copenhagen, the son of bookseller Herman Jacob Bing (1776–1844) and Sara Meyer (1776–1848). Career Bing started working in his father's book and paper shop as a child. Its name was changed to H. J. Bing & Søn when he became a partner in 1833. He continued the firm in a partnership with his four years younger brother Jacob Herman Bing after his father's retirement in 1838. He opened a combined art and gallantry shop at the corner of Kronprinsensgade in 1848. Karen Harup
Karen Margrethe Harup Petersen (20 November 1924 – 9 July 2009) was a Danish swimmer. She competed in four events at the 1948 Summer Olympics and won three medals: a gold in the 100 m backstroke and silvers in the 400 m and 4 × 100 m freestyle, placing fourth in the 100 m freestyle. She won three more gold medals at the 1947 European Championships. During her career she held 30 national titles and set two world records in freestyle relay events. John Rufus Gifford (born August 5, 1974) is an American politician, diplomat, and reality television personality, who serves as the chief of protocol of the United States. DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company.
