Skerry Palanga
Skerry Palanga is a Papua New Guinean rugby league coach who coached Papua New Guinea during the 1980s and 1990s. Coaching career Palanga first coached Papua New Guinea in 1982, in a match against the touring Kangaroo side. He took full time control of the side in 1988 and controlled the team in matches during the 1988 and 1989-1992 Rugby League World Cup. The Papua New Guinea national rugby league team represents Papua New Guinea in the sport of rugby league football. In Papua New Guinea, Rugby League is a highly popular sport and is regarded as the country's national sport. The national side are known as the Kumuls ("birds-of-paradise" in Tok Pisin). History Rugby league in Papua New Guinea was first played in the late forties; it was introduced to the nation by Australian soldiers stationed there during and after the Second World War. Papua New Guinea were admitted to the game's International Federation in 1974. On 6 July 1975, at Lloyd Robson Oval, in Port Moresby the Kumuls played their first ever international. 1982 Kangaroo Tour Of Great Britain And France
The 1982 Kangaroo tour was the fifteenth Kangaroo tour where the Australian national rugby league team played a number of matches against British and French rugby league teams, in addition to the Test matches. The Australia national rugby league team have generally since 1908 barring wartime, toured Great Britain every four years often capping the tour with matches and Tests in France. This regular touring side (and in recent years all Australian representative sides) are known as the Kangaroos. The 1982 Kangaroos, coached by Frank Stanton dominated, winning both Test series against Great Britain (three Tests) and France (two Tests); winning every match of the tour and earning the nickname The Invincibles. Michael Marum
Michael Marum (born 8 October 1973) is a Papua New Guinean rugby league coach and former player who was the first head coach of the Port Moresby-based PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup and the Papua New Guinea national team. During his playing career, Marum represented Papua New Guinea at the 2000 World Cup. He is the nephew of Skerry Palanga, who coached Papua New Guinea in the 1980s and 1990s. Playing career Marum played for the Port Moresby Vipers and then went on to captain, the Agmark Rabaul Guria's and played four tests for Papua New Guinea, including one at the 2000 World Cup. Coaching career Some of Marum's earliest coaching roles were as an assistant for the PNG national side at the 2008 World Cup and 2010 Four Nations. His first head coach role was with the Agmark Gurias in the PNG domestic competition in 2012. Marum has also served as the competition director to the local Agmark nines tournament.
