Skegness
Skegness ( ) is a seaside town and civil parish in the East Lindsey District of Lincolnshire, England. On the Lincolnshire coast of the North Sea, the town is east of Lincoln and north-east of Boston. With a population of 19,579 as of 2011, it is the largest settlement in East Lindsey. It also incorporates Winthorpe and Seacroft, and forms a larger built-up area with the resorts of Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards to the north. The town is on the A52 and A158 roads, connecting it with Boston and the East Midlands, and Lincoln respectively. Skegness railway station is on the Nottingham to Skegness (via Grantham) line. The original Skegness was situated farther east at the mouth of The Wash. Its Norse name refers to a headland which sat near the settlement. By the 14th century, it was a locally important port for coastal trade. Boston And Skegness (UK Parliament Constituency)
Boston and Skegness is a county constituency, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. It is located in Lincolnshire, England. Like all British constituencies, Boston and Skegness elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. The seat has been represented by the Conservative MP Matt Warman since the 2015 general election, and is usually considered a safe seat for the party. The constituency was created in 1997, from parts of the former constituencies of Holland with Boston and East Lindsey. The constituency has always elected a Conservative MP. Butlins Skegness
Butlins Skegness (officially Butlins Resort Skegness), formerly Butlin's Skegness or Funcoast World; is a holiday camp located in Ingoldmells near Skegness in Lincolnshire, England. Billy Butlin conceived of its creation based on his experiences at a Canadian summer camp in his youth and by observation of the actions of other holiday accommodation providers, both in seaside resort lodging houses and in earlier smaller holiday camps. Construction of the camp began in 1935 and it was opened in 1936, when it quickly proved to be a success with a need for expansion. The camp included dining and recreation facilities, such as dance halls and sports fields. During World War II, the camp was subject to use by the military serving as a Naval training base, reverting to being a holiday camp in 1946. Poacher Line
The Grantham–Skegness line, originally promoted as the "Poacher Line", runs for between Grantham and Skegness in Lincolnshire, England. Trains on this route originate from Nottingham via the Nottingham to Grantham Line as an hourly through service from Nottingham to Skegness, with slower stopping services at peak times. The line is operated by East Midlands Railway British Rail Class 156 "Super-Sprinter", British Rail Class 170 "Turbostar" and British Rail Class 158 "Sprinter Express" diesel multiple units. Community rail The route was selected as one of the seven pilot schemes under the Department for Transport's Community Rail Development Strategy in 2005 and was formally designated as a community rail service in July 2006. Skegness Railway Station
Skegness railway station serves the seaside resort of Skegness in Lincolnshire, England at the terminus of the ''Poacher Line''. The station is now owned by Network Rail and managed by East Midlands Railway, who provide all rail services that run to and from Nottingham. History The line to Wainfleet was opened in August 1871 by the Wainfleet and Firsby Railway. This line was then extended to Skegness; the station opened on 28 July 1873. Ingoldmells
Ingoldmells ( ) is a coastal village, civil parish and resort in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated on the A52, and north from the resort town of Skegness. Most housing is found in the west of the village in large council complexes. Close by to the west is the village of Addlethorpe. The village primary school is on Simpson Court. There are fish and chip shops and bars near the beach. Ingoldmells is known as a holiday destination, with sites containing large numbers of caravans. The first Butlins holiday camp was in the village. History The parish church is a Grade I listed building dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul and dating from 1200. The chancel was demolished in 1706, and the church was restored in 1858 and 1892. The west tower dates from the 14th century, and the benches and font are 15th century. Winthorpe is a small coastal village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately north from Skegness . Winthorpe was both an ancient parish, and a civil parish, until 1926 when it was abolished. A small part of it enlarged Addlethorpe parish, and the larger part of it enlarged Skegness parish. The manor belonged to Lord Monson. The church is dedicated to Saint Mary and is a Grade I listed building dating from the 13th century, although most of it is 15th-century. A158 Road
The A158 road is a major route that heads from Lincoln in the west to Skegness on the east coast. The road is located entirely in the county of Lincolnshire and is single carriageway for almost its entirety. The road is approximately long. The road gets quite congested with holiday traffic during the summer. Lincoln to Horncastle Before the Lincoln Bypass was built (in stages) in the mid-1980s, the A158 historically went along ''Wragby Road'' (now the A15).
