Skarnes is the administrative centre of Sør-Odal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village lies along the river Glomma, about half-way between the villages of Disenå and Sander. The new Sør-Odal municipal hall is located in the village. Construction was finished in 2010. The Kongsvingerbanen railway line runs through the village, stopping at Skarnes Station which opened in 1862. The European route E16 highway runs through the village. The Oppstad Church is located about north of the village. The village has a population (2021) of 2,557 and a population density of . Location The village consists of three parts. The "original" Skarnes is on the south side of the river Glomma, near a bridge. The area called ''Tronbøl'' is south of the original village area, on the same side of the river. Skarnes Station
Skarnes Station ( no, Skarnes stasjon) is a railway station located at Skarnes in Sør-Odal, Norway. It is on the Kongsvinger Line (''Kongsvingerbanen''). The station was constructed in 1862 as part of the opening of the Kongsvinger Line. The rail station building was designed by the architectural firm of Heinrich Ernst Schirmer and Wilhelm von Hanno. Charles Berstad
Charles Berstad (born 29 November 1964) is a retired Norwegian football player and current coach. He played for Disenå, Skarnes before playing for Kongsvinger from 1983 to 1992. He then played for Bodø/Glimt from 1993 to 1994, then Kongsvinger again from 1995 to 1998. Berstad has played 303 matches in Tippeligaen, the highest level of football in Norway, and is currently ranked 21st amongst players with the most games played. He left Kongsvinger and joined Danish club Ikast FS, which in 1999 became FC Midtjylland. He played for Ham-Kam from the summer of 1999 to 2000. He coached Ham-Kam in 2001 before being playing coach of Hamar in 2002. He coached the northern team Fauske/Sprint, then Nybergsund not far from Hamar before signing for another northern team Mo ahead of the 2008 season. He resigned from Mo in July 2009. Øystein Sunde
Øystein Olaf Sunde (born 24 January 1947) is a Norwegian folk singer and guitarist. He is known for his high-speed guitar and banjo style and his satirical lyrics. Although often regarded as a comedian, Sunde is a versatile guitarist who has played with several Dixieland bands and jazz combos over the years. Early years He was born 24 January 1947 in Oslo, but his family moved to Skarnes in 1954 where Sunde went to school. In 1955, the family moved back to Lambertseter in Oslo and Sunde continued school there. The same year he started playing piano, but he did not like this because he was forced to rehearse scales and partially because his teacher could play boogiewoogie and Sunde was not allowed to do so by his teacher. Despite protests from his parents he ended his piano playing career at the age of 7. Kongsvingerbanen
The Kongsvinger Line ( no, Kongsvingerbanen) is a railway line between the towns of Lillestrøm and Kongsvinger in Norway and onwards to Charlottenberg in Sweden. The railway was opened on 3 October 1862 and is Norway's second standard gauge line (after the Hoved Line). It was electrified in 1951. The line is owned by the Norwegian National Rail Administration. The line At Kongsvinger there is a junction, the main line turns south and continues to Charlottenberg in Sweden, while another line, the Solør Line—now closed for passenger traffic—runs northwards to Elverum. Oppstad Church
Oppstad Church ( no, Oppstad kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sør-Odal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Oppstad. It is the church for the Oppstad parish which is part of the Solør, Vinger og Odal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1725 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 200 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1394, but the church was not new that year. The first church in Oppstad was a small, wooden stave church that was likely built during the 13th century. This church was dedicated to St. Hallvard. Not much is known about this building.
