Siu Lam Hospital
Siu Lam Hospital, located in Tuen Mun, is the only hospital in Hong Kong providing comprehensive rehabilitation and infirmary services exclusively for patients with severe intellectual disability aged 16 or above. History Siu Lam Hospital was opened on 28 June 1972 by the Executive Councillor, Kenneth Fung Ping-fan. Originally located in Tai Lam Valley, with 200 beds, it was the first hospital to serve patients with severe intellectual disabilities in Hong Kong. Hospital Authority
The Hospital Authority is a statutory body managing all the government hospitals and institutes in Hong Kong. It is under the governance of its board and is under the monitor of the Secretary for Food and Health of the Hong Kong Government. Its chairman is Henry Fan. History Before the establishment of the authority, all health and medical issues were under the management of the Medical and Health Department. In 1990, a new health administration system was introduced as part of the 1989 reforms. The establishment of the Authority served to rebuild state capacity amid the emergence of party politics in Hong Kong. The department became the Department of Health and in 1991, the management of all the public hospitals was passed to a new statutory body, the Hospital Authority, which was established on 1 December 1990 under the Hospital Authority Ordinance. Tuen Mun
Tuen Mun or Castle Peak is an area near the mouth of Tuen Mun River and Castle Peak Bay in the New Territories, Hong Kong. It was one of the earliest settlements in what is now Hong Kong and can be dated to the Neolithic period. In the more recent past, it was home to many Tanka fishermen who gathered at Castle Peak Bay. Tuen Mun Hospital is a public hospital, with a 24-hour Emergency department, accident and emergency department, in Tuen Mun, New Territories, Hong Kong. Its construction began in 1979, and it was inaugurated on 8 March 1990. It is governed by the Hospital Authority, and is designated under New Territories West Cluster. History Tuen Mun Hospital was designed by the Architectural Services Department. It was constructed by Aoki Corporation, a Japanese civil engineering and Construction management, construction services firm. Kenneth Fung Ping-fan
Sir Kenneth Fung Ping-fan, CBE, KStJ, LLD, DSocSc, JP (; 28 May 1911 – 16 May 2002) was a prominent Hong Kong politician and businessman. Biography Fung was born on 28 May 1911 to Fung Ping-shan, a co-founder of the Bank of East Asia, with his twin brother Fung Ping-wah. He graduated from School of Chinese Studies at the University of Hong Kong in 1931. He took up his family business after his father's death in 1931, becoming the general manager and the director of his family business, the Bank of East Asia. At 28 Fung also established the Fung Ping Fan Group, which in 1975 bought a McDonald's franchise and introduced the fast-food chain to what was then the British colony of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) is one of the oldest institutions in Hong Kong, having been founded in 1884. In 1959, it was granted a Royal Charter and renamed The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club ().
