Sir Edmund Francis Hayes, 5th Baronet (1850 - 1912) of Drumboe Castle in the County of Donegal, was a Baronet in the Baronetage of Ireland. Family He was born in 1850 the son of Sir Edmund Samuel Hayes, 3rd Baronet and his wife Emily Pakenham, daughter of Lieutenant-General the Honourable Sir Hercules Pakenham, a son of Lord Longford. Until he inherited the family estate of Drumboe Castle in County Donegal in Ulster in 1901 on the death of his brother, Sir Samuel Hercules Hayes, 4th Baronet, he lived in Como, Potts Point, New South Wales. He married Alice Isabella Wilkinson, daughter of Judge Wilkinson of Sydney Sydney ( ) is the capital city of the state of New South Wales, and the most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Drumboe Castle
Drumboe Castle was located on the outskirts of Stranorlar, a small town in County Donegal in Ulster, Ireland. Early history In 1622, during the Plantation of Ulster, Robert Redington sold the estate at Ballybofey to Sir Ralph Bingley. Bingley erected the original Drumboe Castle, which had four large towers. Its location protected a ford across the River Finn. After the death of Sir Ralph Bingley, his widow Lady Jane and Robert Harrington took charge until 1641, when it was granted to Sir William Bazil, Attorney-General for Ireland. He died in 1693. A descendant of Sir William Bazil was William Basil (who was born William Ball and changed name to Basil). Basil married Frances Dowdeswell around 1736. Their daughter Mary Basil married Sir Samuel Hayes, 1st Baronet, and through this marriage it became the home of the Hayes baronets, of Drumboe Castle, from 1789 to 1912. Sir Edmund Samuel Hayes, 3rd Baronet MP (2 July 1806 – 23 June 1860) of Drumboe Castle, County Donegal was a Baronet in the Baronetage of Ireland and Member of Parliament for County Donegal from 1831 to 1860. Family He was born on 2 July 1806, the son of Sir Samuel Hayes, 2nd Baronet and Elizabeth Lighton, daughter of Sir Thomas Lighton, 1st Baronet MP of Merville, County Dublin. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin in 1823. He was appointed High Sheriff of Donegal for 1830–31. On 3 July 1837, he married Emily Pakenham, daughter of Hon. Hercules Robert Pakenham. Lieutenant-General Sir Hercules Robert Pakenham (29 September 1781 – 7 March 1850) was a British Army officer who served as '' aide-de-camp'' to William IV of the United Kingdom. Francis Aungier Pakenham, 7th Earl of Longford, 1st Baron Pakenham, Baron Pakenham of Cowley, (5 December 1905 – 3 August 2001), known to his family as Frank Longford and styled Lord Pakenham from 1945 to 1961, was a British politician and social reformer.
