Sir Charles Burrell, 3rd Baronet
Sir Charles Merrik Burrell, 3rd Baronet (24 May 1774 – 4 January 1862) was an English Conservative politician, who represented the seat of New Shoreham for fifty-six years, becoming Father of the House of Commons. Burrell was born at Golden Square, London, the son of Sir William Burrell, 2nd Baronet and his wife Sophia Raymond. He succeeded to the title of Baronet Raymond of Valentine House on 20 January 1796. In 1806 he was elected as M.P. for New Shoreham and he held the seat until his death in 1862. Burrell built a country mansion near Knepp Castle, known by the same name, near West Grinstead and purchased an estate at Boulton. He owned a house in Richmond Terrace, London which was the subject of a court case in 1833 in which he argued that because the house was on the site of the former Palace of Whitehall, it was not liable to the poor rate of St. Margaret's, Westminster. Burrell Baronets
There has been one baronetcy created for a person with the surname Burrell. Another baronetcy passed by special remainder to the Burrell family. The Burrell Baronetcy, of West Grinstead Park in the County of Sussex, was created in the Baronetage of Great Britain on 15 July 1766 for Merrik Burrell, with remainder to his nephew Peter Burrell. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. Henry Lowther (politician)
Colonel Henry Cecil Lowther, DL, JP (27 July 1790 – 6 December 1867) was an English Conservative politician and an amateur cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1819 to 1843. His long service in the House of Commons saw him become the Father of the House. Early life Lowther was born on 27 July 1790 at Lowther Castle, Westmorland. George Granville Harcourt (''né'' Venables-Harcourt and Vernon-Harcourt, 6 August 1785 – 19 December 1861) was a British Whig and then Conservative Party politician. Cecil Bisshopp, 12th Baron Zouche
Cecil Bisshopp, 12th Baron Zouche, FRS (29 December 1752 – 11 November 1828) was a Member of Parliament for New Shoreham who afterwards became the 12th Baron Zouche. He was the eldest son of Sir Cecil Bisshopp, 7th Baronet of Parham Park, West Sussex and succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1779. His mother was Susanna Hedges, daughter of Charles Hedges and Catherine Tate, through whom he claimed the Zouche title. He was awarded a DCL at Oxford University and in 1791 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. He entered Parliament in 1780 as the member for New Shoreham, sitting until 1790, and then again in 1796, sitting until 1806. In 1795, during the French Revolutionary Wars, he raised the Parham Troop of Sussex Yeomanry.
