Siouxland Conference
The Siouxland Conference is a ten team high school athletic conference in the northwest corner of Iowa, consisting of schools ranging from the smallest class (1A) to the third largest class (3A), and known for its prominence in small school basketball. Members Incoming Member Common cooperatives History The Siouxland Conference was founded in 1952 and began play in the 1953–54 school year. Originally the league was made up of: Inwood, George and Rock Rapids from Lyon County; Orange City, and Hawarden from Sioux County; and Akron and Le Mars Gehlen from Plymouth County. Rock Valley replaced Augustana Academy of Canton, South Dakota, in 1960. West Sioux of Hawarden left the conference in 1965, and rejoined for a short period in the 1970s. Boyden–Hull became a conference member by 1965. Sioux Center, formerly of the Sioux Empire Conference, and Central Lyon of Rock Rapids joined the Siouxland Conference in 1967. Sheldon, Iowa
Sheldon is a city in O'Brien and Sioux counties in the U.S. state of Iowa, along the Floyd River. The population was 5,512 at the time of the 2020 census; it is the largest city in O'Brien County. History and culture Sheldon got its start in the year 1873, following construction of the Sioux City & St. Paul Railroad through that territory. It was named for Israel Sheldon, a railroad promoter. South O'Brien Community School District
South O'Brien Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Paullina, Iowa. Its junior and senior high school is also in Paullina, while the preschool through elementary school is in Primghar. It is mostly in O'Brien County, with small sections in Clay and Cherokee counties. West Lyon Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Inwood, Iowa. The district is mostly within Lyon County, with a small area in Sioux County, and serves the towns of Inwood, Alvord, Larchwood, and Lester, and the surrounding rural areas. The district was formed in 1960, and for a few years, the district operated two separate schools: West Lyon North, serving Larchwood and Lester, and West Lyon South, serving Inwood and Alvord.
