Sint-Michielsgestel () is a municipality in the southern part of the Netherlands. It is named for the village of Sint-Michielsgestel located within its boundaries. Den Dungen
Den Dungen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel next to the village Maaskantje. History The village was first mentioned in 1300 as "Super Donghen prope Buscum", and means "sandy hills in swampy land". Den Dungen developed in the Middle Ages on three hills near the Aa River. During the 17th century, a ring dike was built to protect against floods. The Catholic St.-Jacobus de Meerdere Church was completed in 1533. In 1899, a new tower was constructed with a needle spire. In 1927, the church was expanded. Den Dungen was home to 1,399 people in 1840. Around 1900, Den Dungen and Maaskantje started to merge into a single urban area. It was a separate municipality until 1996, when it was merged with Sint-Michielsgestel. GroenLinks (, ) is a green political party in the Netherlands. It was formed on 1 March 1989 from the merger of four left-wing parties: the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Pacifist Socialist Party, the Political Party of Radicals and the Evangelical People's Party, which shared left-wing and progressive ideals and earlier co-operated in Regenboog-coalition for the 1989 European Parliament election. After disappointing results in the 1989 and 1994 general elections, the nascent party fared particularly well in the 1998 and 2002 elections. The Christian Democratic Appeal ( nl, Christen-Democratisch Appèl, ; CDA) is a Christian-democratic political party in the Netherlands. The Zuid-Willemsvaart (; translated: ''South William's Canal'') is a canal in the south of the Netherlands and the east of Belgium. Route The Zuid-Willemsvaart is a canal in the provinces Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg (Belgium) and North Brabant. Several important canals are connected to it, e.g. the Campine Canals and the Wilhelmina Canal. Aa (Meuse)
The Aa () is a small river in the Netherlands. It rises near Nederweert in the southeastern province of Limburg, in the Peel region. It flows northwest through the province of North Brabant towards 's-Hertogenbosch, roughly along the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal. In 's-Hertogenbosch, at the confluence of the Aa and the Dommel, the river Dieze is formed, which flows into the Meuse ( nl, Maas) a few km further. Dommel
The Dommel is a small river in Belgium and the Netherlands, left tributary of the Dieze. It is 120 km long, of which 85 km in the Netherlands. The Dommel takes in water from the Keersop, Tongelreep, Run, Gender and Kleine Dommel streams and merges at 's-Hertogenbosch with the Aa stream to form the river Dieze, which subsequently flows towards the Meuse. Maaskantje
Maaskantje () is a village in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. The village is part of the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel, southeast of 's-Hertogenbosch. History The village was first mentioned in 1750 as "nabij het Maaskantje te Gestel", and means "near the mud". Maaskantje was home to 424 people in 1840. Around 1900, Maaskantje and Den Dungen started to merge into a single urban area.
