Singoalla (film)
''Singoalla'' is a 1949 Swedish–French film directed by Christian-Jaque, starring Viveca Lindfors and Alf Kjellin. It is based on the romantic novel ''The Wind Is My Lover'' by Viktor Rydberg, which in turn is based on a medieval legend of the love between a gypsy and a nobleman. It was produced in three language versions: Swedish, French, and English. The Swedish and French versions were entitled ''Singoalla''. The English version had three titles: ''Gypsy Fury'' (USA), ''The Wind is My Lover'' (UK), and ''The Mask and the Sword'' (UK). The Swedish and English versions starred Alf Kjellin as the nobleman, but the French version starred Michel Auclair. All three versions were edited separately – even scoring is slightly different. The Swedish and French run over 100 minutes, the English only 63 minutes. Michel Auclair
Michel Auclair (born Vladimir Vujović, sr-cyr, Владимир Вујовић; 14 September 1922 – 7 January 1988) was an actor of Serbian and French ancestry, known best for his roles in French cinema. Auclair was born to a Serbian father (born in Požarevac, Serbia) and a French mother in Koblenz. His father was Vojislav Vujović, prominent Yugoslav Communist and secretary of the Communist Youth International. Auclair moved to Paris when he was three years old. He entered medical school but then studied acting at the CNSAD in Paris. The Romani (also spelled Romany or Rromani , ), colloquially known as the Roma, are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group, traditionally nomadic itinerants. They live in Europe and Anatolia, and have diaspora populations located worldwide, with significant concentrations in the Americas. In the English language, the Romani people are widely known by the exonym Gypsies (or Gipsies), which is considered pejorative by many Romani people due to its connotations of illegality and irregularity as well as its historical use as a racial slur. Katarina Taikon
Katarina Taikon-Langhammer (29 July 1932 – 30 December 1995) was a Swedish Romany activist, leader in the civil rights movement, writer and actor, from the Kalderash caste. She was the sister of Rosa Taikon. Biography During Taikon's childhood Romani still lived in camps in Sweden, and had to move often, which made it hard for the children to get any school education. Taikon did not learn how to read and write until she was in her teens. In 1946, Taikon was married off to a man. In 1948, a 16-year-old Taikon participated in Arne Sucksdorff's documentary short film ''Uppbrott'', where she danced around a camp fire. The filming of the documentary made it possible for Taikon to divorce her husband. For the next decade, Taikon acted in several Swedish motion pictures. Taikon dedicated her life to improving conditions for Romani people in Sweden and throughout the world.
