Singapore Arts Street
Singapore Arts Street is an annual arts event held in Singapore since 2006, usually during mid of the year. It is akin to an Australian arts market, being free for visitors and involving a large number of participating artists of varying fame, skill and disciplines (including graffiti spray painting). Participating artists also collaborate on the creation of large artworks at the event venue. It is the first event of this scale in Singapore. Early years Singapore Arts Street 2006 & 2007 were held on the sidewalk outside Tanglin Shopping Centre. Singapore Arts Street 2008 Singapore Arts Street 2008 was held in Hougang and Clarke Quay. The guest of honour was Ms Lim Hwee Hua, then Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport and Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC (now the first full female Minister in the Singapore Cabinet). Hougang
Hougang is a planning area and mature residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. The town is the most populous in the region, being home to 247,528 residents as of 2018. Hougang planning area is bordered by Sengkang to the north, Geylang and Serangoon to the south, Bedok to the southeast, Toa Payoh to the southwest, Paya Lebar to the east, Ang Mo Kio to the west and Bishan to the southwest. Clarke Quay
Clarke Quay is a historical riverside quay in Singapore, located within the Singapore River Planning Area. The quay is situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River and Boat Quay. Etymology ''Clarke Quay'' was named after Sir Andrew Clarke, Singapore's second Governor and Governor of the Straits Settlements from 1873 to 1875, who played a key role in positioning Singapore as the main port for the Malay states of Perak, Selangor and Sungei Ujong. Clarke Quay is also the name of a road along the quay, part of which has since been converted into a pedestrian mall. Clarke Street, located next to Clarke Quay, was officially named in 1896, and was originally two streets known simply as East Street and West Street in north Kampong Malacca. Similar to Clarke Quay, Clarke Street has since been converted into a pedestrian mall. Lim Hwee Hua
Lim Hwee Hua ( Tan; zh, s=陈惠华, p=Chén Huìhuá; born 26 February 1959) is a former politician who served as Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for Transport concurrently between 2009 and 2011. She is also the first woman to had served in the Cabinet. A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she was the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Serangoon division of Aljunied GRC between 2006 and 2011 and Marine Parade GRC between 1996 and 2006. Aljunied GRC
The Aljunied Group Representation Constituency is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern and eastern region of Singapore. The GRC consists of five divisions: Eunos, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, Kaki Bukit, Serangoon and Paya Lebar. The current MPs are Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Gerald Giam, Leon Perera and Muhamad Faisal Manap from the Worker's Party (WP). Cultural Medallion
The Cultural Medallion is a cultural award in Singapore conferred to those who have achieved artistic excellence in dance, theatre, literature, music, photography, art and film. It is widely recognized as Singapore's pinnacle arts award. History The award was instituted in March 1979 by Minister for Culture Ong Teng Cheong and administered by the National Arts Council. The awards was given by the Minister for Culture. Since 2006, the award was presented by the President of Singapore instead of the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts (previously known as Minister for Culture). Ng Woon Lam (黄运南) is a full member of National Watercolor Society NWS and American Watercolor Society. Yellow Ribbon Project
The Yellow Ribbon Project (; ms, Projek Riben Kuning) started on 2 October 2004, is a community initiative organised by the Community Action for Rehabilitation of Ex-offenders (CARE) Network in Singapore. The Yellow Ribbon Project advocates a second chance for ex-offenders and their families through concerted efforts and for ex-offenders to reintegrate into society. It also engage the community to accept and engage in community action to accept and support ex-offenders and their families. Description Every year, more than 9,000 ex-offenders in Singapore complete their sentences and are released from the various prisons and drug rehabilitation centres (DRCs). Matthias Yao
Matthias Yao Chih ( zh, s=姚智, p=Yáo Zhì, born 12 January 1956) is a Singaporean former politician. A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Marine Parade GRC between 1991 and 1997, and MacPherson SMC between 1997 and 2011. During his political career, he had served as a Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, the Mayor of the South East District and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) is an annual arts festival held in Singapore. It is organised bArts House Limitedfor the National Arts Council. The festival is usually held in mid-year for a stretch of one month and incorporates theatre arts, dance, music and visual arts, etc. Besides local participants, many of the events are by international artists.
