Sinan Erbil
Sinan Erbil (born 11 January 1965) is an Iraqi Turkmen singer from Erbil. His latest album is the politally charged "Neden Ağlar Kerkük'üm?", featuring Nuray Hafiftas along with a host of world class musicians ıncludıng Erdinç Şenyaylar. Early life Sinan Erbil was born in Erbil, Iraq. He is fluent in the Iraqi Turkmen#Language, Iraqi Turkmen dialect (or "Iraqi Turkish"), Turkish (closely related to Iraqi Turkmen), Arabic and English. His father, was the owner of a popular coffee shop in Erbil. At the age of four, he began learning Turkish folk music from his mother. He would later go on to perform at his father's coffee shop whilst capturing the hearts of his father's customers. Although his parents encouraged his passion for music, they also were mindful in restricting him from spending all his time on it. Erbil
Erbil, also called Hawler (, ar, أربيل, Arbīl; syr, ܐܲܪܒܹܝܠ, Arbel), is the capital and most populated city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It lies in the Erbil Governorate. It has an estimated population of around 1,600,000. Human settlement at Erbil may be dated back to the fifth millennium BC. At the heart of the city is the ancient Citadel of Erbil and Mudhafaria Minaret. The earliest historical reference to the region dates to the Third Dynasty of Ur of Sumer, when King Shulgi mentioned the city of Urbilum. The city was later conquered by the Assyrians. Turkish Folk Music
Turkish folk music (''Türk Halk Müziği'') is the traditional music of Turkish people living in Turkey influenced by the cultures of Anatolia and former territories in Europe and Asia. Its unique structure includes regional differences under one umbrella. It includes popular music from the Ottoman Empire era. After the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923, Turkish President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ordered a wide-scale classification and archiving of samples of Turkish folk music from around the country, which, from 1924 to 1953 collected around 10,000 folk songs. Traditional folk music was combined with Western harmony and musical notation to create a more modern style of popular Turkish music. Iraqi Turkmen
The Iraqi Turkmens (also spelled as Turkoman and Turcoman; tr, Irak Türkmenleri), also referred to as Iraqi Turks, Turkish-Iraqis, the Turkish minority in Iraq, and the Iraqi-Turkish minority ( ar, تركمان العراق; tr, Irak Türkleri) are Iraq's third largest ethnic group. Whilst Turkic migration to Iraq began in the 7th century, followed by 1055's Seljuk conquest, today most Turkmen are descendants of Ottoman soldiers, traders and civil servants who were brought into Iraq from Anatolia during Ottoman Empire, Ottoman rule. Kirkuk ( ar, كركوك, ku, کەرکووک, translit=Kerkûk, , tr, Kerkük) is a city in Iraq, serving as the capital of the Kirkuk Governorate, located north of Baghdad.
