Simon Swain
Simon Charles Robert Swain, Fellow of the British Academy, FBA, is a classicist and academic. Since 2000, he has been Professor of Classics at the University of Warwick, where he has also been Pro-vice-chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Arts and Social Sciences since 2014. Career Simon Charles Robert Swain completed his undergraduate degree in classics (BA) at Pembroke College, Oxford, graduating in 1984. He then moved to Wolfson College, Oxford, as a Doctorate, doctoral student; his Doctor of Philosophy, DPhil was awarded in 1987 for his thesis "Plutarch and Rome: three studies". He was a post-doctoral fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, from 1990 to 1995 and then joined the University of Warwick as a research fellow (at All Souls, he was elected a Fifty-Pound Fellow in 1995 but left the governing body in 2010, becoming a Quondam Fellow). Mark Janse (born 31 August 1959 in Sas van Gent, The Netherlands) is BOF-ZAP research professor in Asia Minor and Ancient Greek at Ghent University, where he studied Classics, Hebrew and Linguistics. Stephen Harrison (classicist)
Stephen Harrison (born 31 October 1960) is a British classicist and a professor of Latin at the University of Oxford. He has published widely on the poetry of Virgil and Horace. Life and career Having read Classics at Balliol College, Harrison has taught Latin literature at the University of Oxford since 1987. In addition, he has been an occasional visiting professor at the universities of Copenhagen and Trondheim. Jaś Elsner
John Richard "Jaś" Elsner, (born 19 December 1962) is a British art historian and classicist, who in 2013 was Humfry Payne Senior Research Fellow in Classical Archaeology and Art at the University of Oxford, based at Corpus Christi College (since 1999), and visiting professor of art history at the University of Chicago (since 2003). He is mainly known for his work on Roman art, including Late Antiquity and Byzantine art, as well as the historiography of art history, and is a prolific writer on these and other topics. British Academy
The British Academy is the United Kingdom's national academy for the humanities and the social sciences. It was established in 1902 and received its royal charter in the same year. It is now a fellowship of more than 1,000 leading scholars spanning all disciplines across the humanities and social sciences and a funding body for research projects across the United Kingdom. Wolfson College, Oxford
Wolfson College () is a constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. Located in north Oxford along the River Cherwell, Wolfson is an all-graduate college with around sixty governing body fellows, in addition to both research and junior research fellows.
