Simon Ross
Simon “Rossie” Ross (born 17 January 1967) is a British radio presenter. He has hosted the breakfast show on Greatest Hits Radio since its launch in 2019. He previously presented the Radio City breakfast show until May 2014. Early years Ross grew up in Armagh and attended St Patricks Grammar School, Armagh Technical College and The College of Business Studies, Belfast. He is a chef by trade, but started out as a DJ in Northern Ireland clubs, bars and discos while studying at college. He gave up his career as a chef in 1991, to join Radio Top Shop and Radio HMV in London. Radio career Ross has worked for several radio stations across the United Kingdom. He presented on Rock FM in Preston from 1992, moving to Capital FM in London in 1998 to present the Evening Show. Greatest Hits Radio is a classic hits radio network in the United Kingdom, owned and operated by Bauer. Overview The network launched on 5 January 2015 as the "Bauer City 2 Network", and rebranded on 7 January 2019 due to the success of Radio City 2 in Liverpool on FM. Rock FM is an Independent Local Radio station based in Manchester, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Lancashire, North West England. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 209,000 listeners according to RAJAR. Overview Originally launched in 1982 as Red Rose Radio, transmitting on 97.3 MHz and 999 kHz (301m MW). The FM frequency transmission changed when the station split to 97.4 MHz in 1990. In 1990, Red Rose Radio was split into two stations - Red Rose Rock FM using the FM frequency and Red Rose Gold on the medium wave frequency. Greatest Hits Radio West Yorkshire (previously Magic 828 and Radio Aire 2) is a local radio station serving West Yorkshire on 96.3 FM, DAB, Online and App. History Magic 828 Magic 828 was launched by Roger Kirk at 8:28 am on 17 July 1990. The station was formed due to Radio Aire splitting its AM and FM frequencies, with Radio Aire rebranding as Aire FM. The station broadcast on 828 kHz AM and the first song played was "Magical Mystery Tour" by The Beatles. The 'Magic 828' name was created by Bob Preedy who was a presenter on Radio Aire at the time. Radio Aire was an Independent Local Radio station, serving Leeds and West Yorkshire. The station was merged and relaunched as Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020.
