Simon Milward
Simon Milward (born Strete, Devon, UK 28 January 1965, died Mali 4 March 2005) was the General Secretary of the Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations (FEMA), based in Brussels, Belgium from 1992 to 1999. He represented motorcyclists in the institutions of the European Union concerning road safety and consumer issues. A collision with a car resulted in hospitalisation. Whilst there, he decided to ride a motorcycle around the world during the course of which he would raise funds for international medical aid. This was called the ''Millennium Ride'' and started in 2000. In May 2002, Milward helped to establish a pilot project entitled Health for All, based on the Riders for Health zero breakdown principles, on the remote Indonesian island of Flores. The Federation of European Motorcyclists' Associations (FEMA) is a motorcycling advocacy group based in Brussels, Belgium. It was formed on 10 January 1998 from a merger of the Federation of European Motorcyclists (FEM) and the European Motorcyclists' Association (EMA). History From its inception FEMA has been headquartered at Rue des Champs 62, 1040 Brussels, Belgium in the offices previously used by its forerunner FEM. Long-distance Motorcycle Riding
Long-distance riding is the activity of riding motorcycles over long distances, both competitively and as a pastime. A goal of long-distance riding is to explore one's endurance while riding a motorcycle, sometimes across several countries. Non-competitive forms of long-distance riding are typically a form of motorcycle touring, sometimes as part of an organised rally. Competitive long-distance motorcycle riding consist in riding in endurance events such as the French Bol d'Or and the 24 Heures du Mans, with a popular target being to cover 1,000 miles in a day. Strete
Strete is a village and civil parish in the South Hams district of Devon, England, on the coast of Start Bay, within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is about 5 miles south-west of the town of Dartmouth on the A379 road between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, atop the cliffs behind Pilchard Cove at the north end of Slapton Sands, which part of the beach is known locally as Strete Sands. The northern end of the beach has been a naturist beach for many years. The parish of Strete was created out of the south-eastern part of Blackawton parish in 1935. There was a small medieval chapel of ease in the village until 1836 when the present church, dedicated to St Michael, was built on the same site, incorporating the chapel's tower. Riders for Health is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that specialises in supplying, managing and maintaining vehicles for health-focused organisations in African countries. Flores
Flores is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, a group of islands in the eastern half of Indonesia.
