Simon Clements
Simon Mark Clements (born 29 April 1956) is an English former cricketer. Clements was a left-handed batsman (cricket), batsman who bowled right-arm Seam bowling, medium pace. He was born in Felixstowe, Suffolk. Clements made his debut in county cricket for Suffolk County Cricket Club, Suffolk in the 1974 Minor Counties Championship against Buckinghamshire County Cricket Club, Buckinghamshire. He later made his first-class cricket, first-class debut for Oxford University Cricket Club, Oxford University against Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Gloucestershire. He made 28 further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against Cambridge University Cricket Club, Cambridge University at Lord's in 1979. In his 29 first-class matches, he scored 860 runs at an batting average (cricket), average of 20.47, with a high score of 91. Felixstowe ( ) is a port town in Suffolk, England. The estimated population in 2017 was 24,521. The Port of Felixstowe is the largest Containerization, container port in the United Kingdom. Batting Average (cricket)
In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism). The number is also simple to interpret intuitively. If all the batter's innings were completed (i.e. they were out every innings), this is the average number of runs they score per innings. MCCA Knockout Trophy
The National Counties Cricket Association Knockout Cup was started in 1983 as a knockout one-day competition for the National Counties in English cricket. At first it was known as the ''English Industrial Estates Cup'', before being called the ''Minor Counties Knock Out Competition'' from 1986 to 1987, the ''Holt Cup'' from 1988 to 1992, the ''MCC Trophy'' from 1993 to 1998, the ''ECB 38-County Cup'' from 1999 to 2002, the ''MCCA Knockout Trophy'' from 2003 to 2005. It has been called the ''MCCA Trophy'' since 2006 until its current rebranding in 2020. From 1998 to 2002, the competition was contested by 38 teams and included a group stage. The 1983 NatWest Trophy was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 29 June and 3 September 1983. The third NatWest Trophy competition, it was won by Somerset who defeated Kent by 24 runs in the final at Lord's. Format The seventeen first-class counties were joined by thirteen Minor Counties. This was a change from the previous versions of the competition, where only five Minor Counties were permitted to take part. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). The 1993 Benson & Hedges Cup was the twenty-second edition of cricket's Benson & Hedges Cup. It was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 27 April and 10 July 1993. The tournament was won by Derbyshire County Cricket Club who defeated Lancashire County Cricket Club by 6 runs in the final at Lord's. Format In the late 1980s the Test and County Cricket Board (TCCB) created a Structure Working Party under the chairmanship of Michael Murray to identify weaknesses in the structure of county cricket and suggest improvements. 1979 Benson & Hedges Cup
The 1979 Benson & Hedges Cup was the eighth competition of cricket's Benson & Hedges Cup. The competition was won by Essex County Cricket Club. Controversy Going into the final round of matches in Group A, Somerset held a three-point lead over both Glamorgan and Worcestershire. Worcestershire were due to play Somerset at New Road while Glamorgan had an easy fixture against Minor Counties South at Watford. It was mathematically possible for both Glamorgan and Worcestershire to overhaul Somerset in the table, and qualify for the quarter-finals, if both teams won (leaving all three on nine points) and their bowling strike rates improved and Somerset's worsened. Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Sussex.
