Silvestre Péricles
Silvestre Péricles de Góis Monteiro (30 March 1896 – 16 November 1972) was a Brazilian soldier and politician, whose family was in power in Alagoas during the Third Brazilian Republic. Early life Silvestre was the son of Pedro Aureliano Monteiro dos Santos and Constança Cavalcante de Góis Monteiro. He graduated from the Federal University of Pernambuco and from the Academy of Commerce of Porto Alegre. In Rio Grande do Sul he was War Auditor in Erechim, São Gabriel, and Porto Alegre. In his home state he was editor of the '' Diário Oficial'' and police delegate in Maceió. Political career A member of a family that emerged in politics in Alagoas after the Brazilian Revolution of 1930, he was an unsuccessful candidate for the government in 1934 for the National Progressive Party, but that same year saw his party approach Getúlio Vargas and count on his benevolence. Arnon De Melo
Arnon Afonso de Farias Melo (19 September 1911 — 29 September 1983) was a Brazilian journalist, lawyer, politician and businessperson. He is the father of the ex-president of Brazil Fernando Collor de Mello. Biography He was the son of Manuel Afonso de Melo and Lúcia de Farias Melo. He studied in Maceió until he moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1930, where he worked as a journalist at ''A Vanguarda'', a newspaper closed down by the Brazilian Revolution of 1930. A lawyer who graduated from the National Law School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1933, he worked for the ''Diário de Notícias'' and the ''Diários Associados'' before graduating. After graduating he worked for the Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro and also for the ''Diário Carioca'' and ''O Jornal''. Pedro Aurélio De Góis Monteiro
Pedro Aurélio de Góis Monteiro (12 December 1889 – 16 October 1956) was a Brazilian army general and politician, noted as one of the architects of the Cohen Plan and of the subsequent 1937 Brazilian coup d'état. Biography Pedro Aurélio de Góis Monteiro was born in São Luís do Quitunde, Alagoas. The son of Pedro Aureliano Monteiro dos Santos and Constança Cavalcanti de Góis Monteiro. Coming from a family with military tradition, he began his career at the Porto Alegre War School and reached the rank of army general. Over the years he adopted a loyalist stance when fighting the Copacabana Fort revolt, ''tenentism'' and the Prestes Column during the 1920s. The outbreak of the Brazilian Revolution of 1930 led him to exercise military command of it, contributing to its success. The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (, often referred to as TCU) is Brazil's federal audit office. It provides assistance to the Congress of Brazil in its Constitutional duty to exercise external audit over the Executive Branch. Its members, known as Ministers, are appointed by the National Congress and the President of Brazil. The TCU employs a highly qualified body of civil servants to prevent, investigate and sanction corruption and malpractice of public funds, with national jurisdiction. The Court was established on November 7, 1890, although its origins can be traced back to the Royal Treasury (''Erário Régio''), founded in 1808 by King John VI. It is, therefore, one of the world's oldest institutions dedicated to national government accountability. Social Democratic Party (Brazil, 1945–1965)
The Social Democratic Party (, PSD) was a political party in Brazil between 1945 and 1965. It was founded by Getúlio Vargas when he transformed his Estado Novo into a multi-party system. The PSD was a centrist party which represented the more conservative wing of the Getulist movement. The other pro-Vargas party was the Brazilian Labour Party (PTB). The PSD was the most important Brazilian political party during the 1945–1964 democratic period, electing Presidents Eurico Gaspar Dutra in 1945 and Juscelino Kubitschek in 1955. After the coup d'état in 1964, when military dictatorship kicked in, it was banned together with all other parties. The party relied on powerful networks of rural elites in the less-developed parts of the country.
