Silvermine Bay Ferry Pier
Silvermine Bay Ferry Pier or Mui Wo Ferry Pier is a ferry pier located on the waterfront of Silver Mine Bay in Mui Wo Ferry Pier Road, Mui Wo, New Territories, Hong Kong. There are two ferry routes provided in the pier. One is the service between Mui Wo and Central, operated by Sun Ferry. Another one is the "Inter-Island" service among Peng Chau, Lantau Island (Mui Wo, Chi Ma Wan) and Cheung Chau, also operated by the same operator. History Before the war, although the population in Mui Wo had increased, it was still geographically isolated. Few people in Mui Wo had visited Hong Kong Island and only took the kai-to to Cheung Chau several times a year to buy daily necessities. Until the establishment of Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry, the ferry only went from Hong Kong Island to Cheung Chau. Mui Wo
Mui Wo is a rural town on the eastern coast of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The 2011 Census recorded 5,485 people living in Mui Wo and its environs. Mui Wo is located on Silvermine Bay, so named for the silver mines that were once worked along the Silver River () which flows through the village. The main beach in Mui Wo is known as Silver Mine Bay Beach (). The town is known for the feral water buffalos and cows that roam the area. Prior to the Airport Core Programme and the subsequent development of Tung Chung and North Lantau into a new town, Mui Wo was the principal point for day-trippers setting out to explore Lantau Island. Today, it is still the principal way of reaching South Lantau – from the beaches in Cheung Sha to the fishing village of Tai O and the Tian Tan Buddha. The Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company Limited (HYF), is a ferry company founded in 1897 in Hong Kong. It is commonly known as Yaumati Ferry. Tung Chung Station
Tung Chung () is a station on the of the MTR rapid transport system in Hong Kong. As the western end of the Tung Chung line, it is also a transfer point of those wishing to use the Ngong Ping Cable Car and by bus to the rest of Lantau Island. As with all other MTR stations, Tung Chung has a unique colour scheme used throughout the station, in this case lavender. The Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Link (, abbreviated as TM–CLKL) is a road project in the New Territories, Hong Kong. It comprises two elements: the "Northern Connection" and the "Southern Connection". Tung Chung Line
The Tung Chung line is one of the ten lines of the MTR system in Hong Kong, linking the town of Tung Chung with central Hong Kong. A part of the Tung Chung line was built along with the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and the Tsing Ma Bridge. The line currently travels through eight stations in 31 minutes along its route. The Lantau Link, formerly known as the Lantau Fixed Crossing, is a roadway in Hong Kong forming part of Route 8 linking Lantau Island to Tsing Yi, from which other roads lead to the urban areas of Kowloon and the rest of the New Territories. Part of the Airport Core Programme centred on the new Hong Kong International Airport on Lantau, the link was officially opened on 27 April 1997, and it opened to traffic on 22 May the same year. Tai O
Tai O is a fishing town, partly located on an island of the same name, on the western side of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The village name means ''large inlet'', referring to outlet for the waterways (Tai O Creek and Tai O River) merges as it moves through Tai O. Geography On the southwest part of Lantau Island, Tai O River splits to the north (as Tai O Creek) and west and at this fork lies the island referred to as Tai O. Two pedestrian bridges cross the river on its northern and western forks. The village is located mostly on the banks of the river. The Big Buddha (Hong Kong)
The Big Buddha is a large bronze statue of Buddha, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. The statue is sited near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith. It is a major centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong, and is also a tourist attraction. Description The statue's base is a model of the Altar of Heaven or Earthly Mount of Tian Tan, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. One of the five large Buddha statues in China, it is enthroned on a lotus on top of a three-platform altar. Surrounding it are six smaller bronze statues known as "The Offering of the Six Devas" that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha. New Lantao Bus
The New Lantao Bus Company (1973) Limited, commonly known as New Lantao Bus or NLB, is a franchised bus company operating in Hong Kong. It mainly operates bus routes on Lantau Island. History NLB was formed in 1973 through the merger of three bus companies operated by residents of Lantau Island, and became the third franchised bus company on 1 April 1974. In January 1992, NLB became a subsidiary of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings. NLB's franchise was extended on 1 April 1997 to run until 31 March 2007. It was extended again until 1 March 2017. The current franchise runs from 1 March 2017 to 1 March 2027. Before the construction of Tung Chung New Town, almost all of NLB's routes terminated at Mui Wo. Central Piers
The Central Ferry Piers (Chinese: 中環碼頭) are situated on the northeast part of Central, Hong Kong Island. The ferries mostly depart to Outlying Islands in the New Territories, with the exception of Pier 1 serving as a government pier, and ferries from piers 7 and 8 going to Kowloon. History The current piers were all built in the 1990s and early 2000s due to the Airport Core Programme, under which the Central Reclamation was built to provide land for Hong Kong station, the terminus of the new airport railway. Sir Kenneth Fung Ping-fan, CBE, KStJ, LLD, DSocSc, JP (; 28 May 1911 – 16 May 2002) was a prominent Hong Kong politician and businessman. Biography Fung was born on 28 May 1911 to Fung Ping-shan, a co-founder of the Bank of East Asia, with his twin brother Fung Ping-wah. He graduated from School of Chinese Studies at the University of Hong Kong in 1931. He took up his family business after his father's death in 1931, becoming the general manager and the director of his family business, the Bank of East Asia. At 28 Fung also established the Fung Ping Fan Group, which in 1975 bought a McDonald's franchise and introduced the fast-food chain to what was then the British colony of Hong Kong. He co-founded the Ocean Park Hong Kong and was a founding chairman of the park. From 1951 to 1960 he was the appointed unofficial member of the Urban Council of Hong Kong.
