Silas Ntigurirwa
Lieutenant General Silas Ntigurirwa (born 12 December 1968 in Cibitoke Province, Burundi) is a Burundian military officer, in the Burundi National Defense Forces (BNDF). Effective December 2013, he is the Commander of AMISOM The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was a regional peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations Security Council. It was mandated to support transitional governmental structures, implem ..., based in Mogadishu, Somalia. Lieutenant General Silas Ntigurirwa is the first Burundian and first non- Ugandan to command AMISOM, since the creation of the Mission in 2007. He served as AMISOM commander until December 2014 and was succeeded by Lieutenant General Jonathan Kipkemoi Rono. Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. A lieutenant general commands an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60 000 to 70 000 soldiers (U.S.). The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was a regional peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations Security Council. It was mandated to support transitional governmental structures, implement a national security plan, train the Somali security forces, and to assist in creating a secure environment for the delivery of humanitarian aid. Lieutenant General Andrew Gutti is a Ugandan military officer. He was the Chairman of the General Court Martial of the Uganda People's Defence Force until 3 August 2000, when he handed over office to Brigadier General Robert Freeman Mugabe.
