Sigrid Burger also simply known as Sigi Burger (born 23 February 1996) is a South African netball player who plays in the positions of goal shooter. UK She was also part of the South African squad which finished at fourth position at the 2019 Netball World Cup. Career Sigrid made her international debut for South Africa against Wales at the 2016 Wales- South Africa test series. She also played for the South African university netball team at the 2016 World University Netball Championships where South Africa eventually went onto become the champions. She also represented South Africa at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, her maiden Commonwealth Games appearance and was part of the South African squad which finished at fifth position in the Netball at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, netball tournament. The South Africa national netball team, nicknamed the SPAR Proteas, represents South Africa in women's international netball. The SPAR Proteas are coached by Dorette Badenhorst, and are captained by Bongiwe Msomi. The team are governed by Netball South Africa and sponsored by SPAR. South Africa are currently fifth in the INF World Rankings. Netball
Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth nations. World University Netball Championship
The World University Championships are organized by the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU). In July, 2012, the first World University Netball Championship was held in Cape Town, South Africa. The South African Federation of University Sports organised the event. It is a women's indoor tournament with a maximum of 12 teams competing. 12 competitors and 5 officials are allowed per team. The venue of the first championship was the Good Hope Sports Centre in Cape Town, July 2–7, 2012. The winners were England, who beat South Africa in the finals. The winners of the inaugural tournament were England, edging out South Africa in the grand final in a close game that went into overtime. Jamaica came 3rd, beating Ireland 41-30 for the bronze medal. The second World University Netball Championship was organised by the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) and held in Miami, United States. It is a women's indoor tournament with a maximum of 12 teams competing. 12 competitors and 5 officials are allowed per team. Silver medallist in 2012 South Africa won the tournament from Jamaica. 2019 African Netball Championships
The 2019 African Netball Championships was held in Cape Town from 18-23 October 2019. The tournament featured seven nations including hosts South Africa, defending champions Uganda along with Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho and Zimbabwe in 2 pool categories. Tanzania pulled out of the tournament due to financial issues, just a day before the tournament opener against Zimbabwe. The tournament was originally supposed to have its scheduled opening match between defending champions Uganda and Zimbabwe but was called off due to the last minute withdrawal by Tanzania. The authorities later revealed that the match between hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe to be the opening match of the tournament while the tournament was later modified with round robin format. 2019 Netball World Cup
The 2019 Netball World Cup (also known as the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 15th edition of the INF Netball World Cup. It was held from 12–21 July 2019 at the Liverpool Arena in Liverpool, England with matches being held on two courts. Host nation England finished their campaign with a bronze medal. New Zealand became 5th time champions after beating Australia in the final and gold medal match. Sixteen nations contested for the title, which included the top six of the previous tournament which was held in Sydney, Australia. After two group stage rounds, Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa all made it to the semi-finals.
