Signe Barth
Signe Magdalena Barth née Pettersson (16 June 1895, Uddevalla — 15 March 1982, Stockholm) was a Swedish painter and art teacher. After studying in Stockholm and Copenhagen, she moved to Paris in 1920 where she completed her education, married and settled until 1936. After returning to Sweden, she ran an art college in Stockholm from 1940 to 1959. Her paintings include motifs in oils from Paris and Stockholm as well as landscapes from the west coast of Sweden. Early life and education Born in Uddevalla on 16 June 1895, Signe Magdalena Pettersson was the daughter of the high-ranking government official Fredrik Emil Pettersson (1892–1907) and his wife Vendela Kristina von Essen (1853–1919). She was the family's youngest child. Uddevalla
Uddevalla (old no, Oddevold) is a town and the seat of Uddevalla Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. In 2015, it had a population of 34 781. It is located at a bay of the south-eastern part of Skagerrak. The beaches of Uddevalla are filled with seashells and Uddevalla has one of the largest shell-banks in the world. Uddevalla has a port and it once had a large shipyard, the ''Uddevallavarvet'' ("Uddevalla wharf"), which was the largest employer in Bohuslän during the 1960s. The 1970s recession, that affected the Swedish shipyard industry severely, led to the closing of the wharf in 1985. Carl Wilhelmson
Carl Wilhelm Wilhelmson (12 November 1866, Fiskebäckskil – 24 September 1928, Gothenburg) was a Swedish painter, graphic artist, amateur photographer and art teacher. Biography His father, Anders Wilhelmson, was a "Bästeman" (a type of Naval Master), who died in a shipwreck in 1875. His mother, Amalia, opened a small shop to support the family. Some relatives were in the printing business so, in 1881, he was apprenticed to the lithographers Meyer & Köster in Gothenburg. He also took evening classes at the School of Design and Crafts. He later became a full-time student of Carl Larsson at the Valand Academy. In 1888, on the recommendation of Larsson and his former employers, he was awarded a scholarship from the Kommerskollegium that enabled him to travel to Leipzig. While there, he worked for several notable lithography firms. Despite this, he remained undecided as to whether he should pursue a career in lithography or strike out on his own as an artist. Tjörn
Tjörn () is the sixth largest island in Sweden, located on the Swedish West coast in the province of Bohuslän. The area of the island is , and the area of the municipality is .
