Sidney Walter Smith
Sidney Walter Smith JP (20 January 1893 – 26 August 1981) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. He was a Parliamentary Under-Secretary and later a Minister. Biography Smith was born in Ashburton in 1893. He received his education at Algin Primary and Ashburton High Schools. He served in the NZEF in France and Egypt in World War I. He then farmed at Opuawhanga and Pakaraka and went into business. He was on several local boards, acting as a member of the Bay of Islands County Council and the Bay of Islands Hospital Board, and as Chairman of the Bay of Islands Dairy Company. He married Dorothy Alice Blundell in 1924. He represented the Bay of Islands electorate from 1943 to 1946, and the renamed Hobson electorate from 1946 to 1960 when he retired. Under Sidney Holland, he was Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Minister of Agriculture and of Marketing (1949–1954). Sydney George Smith
Sydney George Smith (19 January 1879 – 21 May 1943) was a New Zealand politician of the Liberal Party and then the National Party, and a cabinet minister. Early life Smith was born in New Plymouth in 1879. His parents were the MHR Edward Smith and Mary Ann Golding. He enjoyed rugby during his youth, and later became an administrator for the sport for the Taranaki Region. On 19 November 1901, he married Elsie Rose Herbert (known as Rose) at St Mary's Church in New Plymouth. She was a daughter of G H Herbert of the Royal Engineers. They had three children: Rosa Maud (b. 1902), Ethel Mary (b. 1905), and Edward George (b. 1906). His wife died on 3 April 1913, aged 35. Smith remarried on 25 February 1915, to Catherine (Kate) Bint, again at St Mary's Church. Kate Bint was born in July 1892 at Tarata in Taranaki, some by road west of Inglewood. Keith Holyoake
Sir Keith Jacka Holyoake, (; 11 February 1904 – 8 December 1983) was the 26th prime minister of New Zealand, serving for a brief period in 1957 and then from 1960 to 1972, and also the 13th governor-general of New Zealand, serving from 1977 to 1980. He is the only New Zealand politician to date to have held both positions. Holyoake was born near Pahiatua in the Wairarapa. He left formal education at age 12 to help on the family farm. Before entering politics, he was active in various local farming associations. Holyoake was first elected to Parliament in 1932, representing the conservative Reform Party. He played an instrumental role in the formation of the National Party in 1936. He lost his seat two years later but was earmarked for the safe seat of Pahiatua, which he held from 1943. Neill Austin
Howard Neill Austin (12 December 1924 – 24 June 2008) was a New Zealand politician of the New Zealand National Party, National Party. He held many positions with Federated Farmers. Early life Austin was born in 1924 in Rawene, a town on the south side of the Hokianga harbour. His father was William Neill Austin. He received his education at Okaihau District High School (now Okaihau College). In 1946, he married Violet Mudgway, the daughter of Herbert Lewis Mudgway; the couple were to have three daughters. Outside politics Austin was a member of the Umawera School committee from 1956 to 1962. He was on the executive of the Umawera Settlers' Association, and chaired the group from 1960 to 1965. He was a member of the Waihou Memorial Church committee from 1968; Waihou is a locality west of Kaitaia. Charles Wallace Boswell (5 August 1886 – 17 June 1956) was a New Zealand politician of the Labour Party. Biography Early life and career Boswell was the son of a pioneer family and was born in the Coromandel. He went to school at Driving Creek and played senior grade rugby and cricket in his youth. He attended University of Auckland and graduated with a Master of Arts. He married Emma Adelaide Beatrice (Jean) Smith on 16 January 1912 with whom he had one son. He then spent many years as a teacher before becoming the headmaster of Kawakawa District High School.
