Siddiqur Rahman (Patuakhali Politician)
Siddiqur Rahman (2 October 1951 – 29 June 1986) was a politician of Barguna District of Bangladesh and former member of parliament for then Patuakhali-2 constituency, which currently is Barguna-1, in 1979. He was a freedom fighter in the 1971 independence war and was one of the leaders of Shambhu Sangram Parishad. Career Student leaders Siddiqur Rahman and Dhirendra Chandra Debnath were among the leaders of Shambhu Sangram Parishad. Under the leadership of the Sangram Parishad, the armed liberation war started in Barguna subdivision and training started in every police station. The youth of Barguna started training with all the students of Chhatra League and Chhatra Union in the field and treasury field of Barguna police station.After 26 March, the Pak army attacked Barguna. Shahzada Abdul Malek Khan ( bn, শাহজাদা আবদুল মালেক খান, 19251 April 2007) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Member of Parliament of Patuakhali-2. Early life and family Khan was born in 1925, to a Bengali Muslim political zamindar family known as the ''Khans of Kaunia'' based in Betagi which was under the Backergunge District of the Bengal Presidency. The family trace their origins to Qutub Khan, a soldier of Shah Shuja's army, who settled in Kaunia and was given the ''malikana'' of Buzurg-Umedpur Taluq. His father, Abi Abdullah Khan Chan Miah, was the founder of the Kaunia zamindar estate and member of the Bengal Legislative Council. Barguna ( bn, বরগুনা ''Borguna'') is a district in the Barisal Division, division of Barisal, Bangladesh. It is situated in the southern part of Bangladesh. Barguna subdivision was established in 1969 and promoted to district on 28 February 1984. History Barguna district was in the Sundarbans, Sundarban area. In the evolution of time, people started clearing the forest by cutting down the trees and started to live here. Wood merchants used to come here to collect woods from the forest. Etymology There is not enough strong proof of naming the district. Some historians say that timber traders of the northern region came here to buy timbers and waited for the favoring flow (Baro - Gone) to overcome and from there the name "Baro-Gana" was derived.
